If you live in Massachusetts, or the rest of New England, you really need to experience the amazing, exotic, and delicious specialties here. We were visiting my girlfriend's best friends in Taunton. My good friend Amando, and his wife Kim, had introduced us to Marisqueira.
The first time we were here, the place was phenomenal. So I thought we should try going there again, just to see if the first time it wasn't just good wine, good food, and and good friends that made it so great. After returning there, There are not enough good words I can say for this place.
Marisqueira serves an appetizer called Lapas, which is an extremely tasty and savory appetizer. They are bivalve shellfish that have a stronger flavor than that of a standard clams. They are served perfectly, each time I have been here.
Then for my entree, I had the octopus special. I'm told by my good friend, Amamdo, that either you will love it, or not like it at all. Now this is a guy that has never steered me wrong on any suggestion. So with some trust, I have him order, in Portuguese, the octopus special.
So as we are served our appetizers, I listen to Armando give me a history behind the dish, and tells me that they only run the octopus special sporadically, so we are in luck that they have it the Saturday afternoon that we went.
Ok, so just putting aside the INCREDIBLE Lapas, and I do mean INCREDIBLE in caps. The main dish comes, and I see a very ample serving braised octopus 🐙 tentacles in this vibrant, spicy sauce arranged in the middle of some potatoes, and for more versatility, they garnish the octopus with these lively marinated peppers.
The peppers you use for the "heat" component. You can make this dish as spicy as you want with each successive bite. The sauce, though, was dwarfed in comparison to how skillfully prepared the octopus was. It was tender, and of a texture of the best prepared calamari you've ever had. It was wonderful!
Now, the sauce did not need heat, to be truly delicious. Each bite was a new experience in how well cooked and tender the main ingredient was. I'm not much for trying new and exotic dishes, so eye-opening experiences like this make the whole experience worth while.
In short, you do not you walk by an open Marisqueira. You go in. You enjoy the delicacies from far-off shores. Prepared by a truly talented...
Read moreAfter a decade in Florida, I've been craving authentic Portuguese cuisine, especially lapas, and Marisqueira Azores in Fall River delivered beyond my wildest expectations! I've dined at Portuguese restaurants across the globe and throughout New England – New Bedford, Fall River, Lowell, Gloucester – and none even come close. Marisqueira is truly in a league of its own.
The lapas were absolutely divine, just as I remembered them, and a testament to the restaurant's commitment to authentic flavors. I felt like I was eating in Ponta Delgada again. The polvo (octopus) was tender and perfectly seasoned, and the Bitoque (prego no prato) was simply mouthwatering. Every dish was a masterpiece.
The quality of the food, the vibrant atmosphere, and the impeccable service made for an unforgettable dining experience. It's clear that Marisqueira Azores is a local gem, and for good reason! We witnessed a steady stream of people being turned away without reservations, which speaks volumes about its popularity. Do yourself a favor and book a table in advance!
If you're looking for the most authentic and delicious Portuguese food in the area, look no further than Marisqueira Azores. It's like taking a culinary trip to the Azores without ever leaving Fall River. Five stars simply...
Read moreNot a fancy restaurant, kind of a hole in the wall kind of place. Went on a Sunday when it opened and was greeted with "do you have reservations?" We did not..didn't think we'd need them honestly. We were promptly seated. On Sundays, they do not serve from the lunch menu, no sandwiches no codfish.. cut our choices considerably.
We were with our elderly family who don't eat much, but know we go ro lunch on Sundays. We ordered a plate of chicken Mozambique for them to split as portion sizes are huge! The owner suggested that to us which was appreciated. I had the stuffed shrimp & my husband had a special, octopus stew. The restaurant was pretty busy surprisingly and that's great. Our meals were served and the ladies dug into the chicken Mozambique. My stuffed shrimp was a little surprising. They were medium shrimp with little bits of stuffing. I think because of the size, they were a little dry, but not overwhelmed with carbohydrates from stuffing. I think it would have been helpful if they were served with a little melted butter. The broccoli served with them was c[ked just right. My husband ate his octopus stew without much comment. He said when done, that he wished it had been a...
