First time visiting here and I didn’t give stars food since I didn’t have any it would be unfair for me to judge. So first impression, walking up and two groups are yelling at each other right in front of only entrance to place and a staff member was there just standing around looking lost. They two ladies wanted to rumble and they were blocking the entrance. I had to weave my way through a potential fight just to get inside. Very horrible first impression. Then I go inside and sit at the bar rail and the one bartender she looked at me and then just continued to talk to the servers and ignored my need for service. Then finally the other bartender comes over and offers me service. I ask her what bourbon she has and she can’t answer me. I am sorry but if you are a bartender you should know your product. I don’t want to hear “we have to much what one do you want” or “here is our list”. I work in this industry know your product, you don’t have to know everything but to say to a customer “I don’t drink bourbon so I don’t know what we sell” seems wrong. The bartenders were friendly and the service was good so that not the issue it’s a lack of product knowledge. I didn’t inquire about her favorite or why I should drink A or B just asked what you have only to have them go searching for a list. Took two bartenders to get me a list.
My largest complaint and the reason for the 3 stars in atmosphere is the restroom. This is a very nice and modern establishment however the very nice bathroom smells of old urine, one the soap dispensers was broken. Not that it mattered no one that comes here knows how to wash their hands after using the restroom anyways. The air freshener things were likely broken and old and never replaced just like the broken soap dispenser by the sinks. There is so much great potential here but a dirty restroom is a huge problem for any restaurant. The fact customers don’t know how to wash their hands and the fact that management of this establishment don’t care about how clean the restroom isn’t is a huge issue. A clean restroom should not smell of old urine. If this was a dive bar like something in downtown I could maybe understand but this is a very modern and fresh looking establishment. Needs help and it wasn’t even that busy in there as I seen servers...
Read moreSouthTown is a trendy new place. It has all you'd expect from a modern "pour house", except a vast variety of taps. It was St Patrick's weekend (day before), so they had a couple standard celebratory dishes including: corned beef and cabbage, bangers and mash and a stew. We tried the corned beef and cabbage and the Inferno Burger. The corned beef and cabbage was pretty bland. The Inferno Burger was decent, but definitely a frozen patty and appeared to be seared by a press similar to McDonald's. The fries were just above room temp and the beer is served in plastic cups. Another thing I noticed from a few patrons was the lack of low tops or booth seating. Every table is a high top. I like low light for evening ambiance, but this place is low light during lunch. Overall I give this joint ⭐⭐⭐. The service was pretty good and although the food was near fast food quality at a dine in price, it was decent and I would have to imagine it's a good bar for the...
Read moreI really wanted to love this place, as I have heard lots of good things. Also like that you can order off the Duane's House of Pizza menu. I was there with a party of 8 for a work lunch. Everyone else ordered off of their menu, and I ordered Duane's. They did tell me mine would take a few minutes longer, but everyone else was at least halfway done with their food before I got mine, and the pizza toppings were wrong. Service was also very slow and they didnt even come back to the table except to deliver the bill. It was a disappointment, but I'm hopeful it was an off day. I would try it again, but definitely not order from the Duane's menu and would not go there when on a time crunch. If you want Duane's (and who doesn't?), go to the Duane's side and then go to the SouthTown PourHouse...
