Huge disappointment. We live over the state line in Alabama. For over a year I've been intrigued by billboards advertising the "slaw burger" in Fayetteville. After Googling, I vowed to drive up one day and try this supposed gem. Today was finally that day. Loaded up my kids and my mom and drove up there for lunch. We arrived well after the lunch rush - around 1:30. Having never been there, we didn't know to seat ourselves. Finally someone pointed out we could do so and that there were tables in the back. We made our way to a table and placed our drink orders. The unsweet tea was old - on its way to being spoiled. Next we placed our food orders. I asked what size the burger patties were so I could decide whether to get a regular or double. The waitress said "I don't know. Normal size." I asked if that meant 1/4 pound. She said "No. It's just a patty." Needless to say my confidence was already shaken. We ordered one of the "famous" double slaw burgers with fries, one double cheeseburger with onion rings, one kid's burger, and one macaroni and cheese. The waitress left the table. We waited. A few minutes later she returned and addressed us: "Y'all ain't in no hurry are ya?" We asked why. She replied that it would be a 40 minute wait for our food. They were just "so backed up" - again, the place wasn't crowded and more and more tables were emptying out by the minute. We asked if there was anything she could bring out for the kids. She said "naw". We pressed...no rolls? no bread? She said she could bring out the macaroni. Okay, please bring two sides of that - the kids were hungry - and we would wait the ridiculous 40 minutes. After all, we had driven all the way up there just for that burger. We waited. Thirty minutes and still nothing. Not even the promised macaroni. At the 40 minute mark the slaw burger arrived with a very small amount of fries. A few minutes later one order of macaroni arrived. It was very clearly the cheapest box (like the kind thats 25 cents) of macaroni and powdered cheese and had been prepped in the microwave. The other burgers finally came out. The onion rings were missing. We asked about them and were told "yeah, they workin' on it". Then, for some bizarre reason, we received another order of macaroni and "cheese" even though it had only been ordered in an attempt to not let the kids starve while we waited and then didn't get delivered to us until after the other food arrived. The onion rings finally came to the table after we had already eaten the burgers. Somehow it took them almost an hour to cook them...and they still arrived at the table barely warm. Honestly, after that ordeal, they should have at least offered a discount or free dessert or ANYTHING to make up for it - but they still charged full price. So, to summarize - we drove out of our way for horrible service and mediocre food. Huge disappointment and a waste of...
Read moreEDIT: Stopped in on Oct. 9, 2021 to try this place out again. The joint was pretty busy, most booths up front filled with some seats up at the counter filled. Took an empty table near the back near where others were also sitting. Two older women that were already seated were waiting for their order. Which arrived shortly after we ordered. When our food came out, the women were leaving.. the received their meals, but no forkware (they asked the waitress who brought the food, but they never came back with it) and they never received their sides. The women ended up leaving. Again, as many other times, I ordered the home fries, which came out undercooked. I would blame it on the staff, but there are different people manning the fryer each time I've been - on this day, it was the owner. I just find it hard to believe that no one understands you have to not only slice.thr potatoes when you fry them, you have to make sure the slices peel apart, too.. most everyone in the back of the restaurant was looking around, no one was getting refills. Both burgers in our order had meat on the edge that was undercooked. I like my burgers a bit pink, but this wasn't it. We had ordered a dessert to come out with the meal, it never came. Only received it after paying and asking for the cone from two different waitresses. It's not a large restaurant, and there were four working that I saw plus the owner at the grill.
Original (2018): Let me start off by saying I grew up eating at this place, and there's fewer things nearer and dearer to my heart than a slawburger. There's a lot of history here... That being said, it's very aggravating to get the kind of service you're bound to eventually get here. The family got here 10:20am, there were two others seated along with the local law enforcement in the back. Don't even think about ordering breakfast. I've had so-so service here before, but the staff in hand today seemed very inconvenienced. After ordering, every trip our waitress made back to the table, whether to bring refills or our orders, there was no talking, no acknowledgement or exchange of any kind, no asking if everything was alright or if we needed anything. I know the owner likes to hire the younger, attractive girls, but in my business, if the help can't even fake a smile and pretend they want your business, they have no place working for me or my customers. It's really concerning, because the last time we came here, one of the girls was being dropped off on the square for work. She got out of the car and called the driver a b**ch in front of several of us walking on the square before walking inside Honey's for her shift. I can't really recommend this place to newcomers anymore because the staff is such a poor representation of our townsfolk. Order your slawburger to...
Read moreI wish I would have Johnnie’s prior review before dining here. I don’t usually write reviews and don’t read reviews when the restaurants are recommended by area hotels as being good. But I must say that this was an awful experience. I will try to be brief but hit all of the important points. First off it was not a very clean or friendly experience. My booth was not cleaned, syrup and other “matter” on the table. If you are going to yell out sit anywhere you should at least clean the available tables. The waitress took my order without much fanfare but as I was waiting for my food I observed some very disturbing things. This same waitress bused ALL of the tables and simply piled dishes up on the counter. But most importantly she change the garbage at two separate large garbage cans behind the counter and not once did she was her hands. YUCK! In between the garbage change out she served water, coffee and meals to incoming and customers who were already there. The garbage was just sat at the end of the counter and not moved to an outside receptacle. I watched for my order and intercepted it at the counter before she could touch it. She came over immediately and ask was my food okay and I asked her where the grits were as they were part of the meal that they ordered. She then said “oh, we are out of grits” and offered me oatmeal instead. Well I ordered the egg meal (The Original) to go with my grits! Really! You don’t tell your customers that you are out of something before you order? And had i not asked you would not have said or offered anything at all. I would have ordered something else had I know this. And if you serve breakfast on a daily basis, and I believe all day, how are you out of grits at 8:15 in the morning? The meal was just fair/okay, the sausage patties were overcooked and what they called home fries I had never seen before! It was potatoes cut in slices, not shredded or chunked just slices, like circles. Oh, and when I asked for the check she said that it was at the register. So everyone in the restaurants ticket is at the register? Yes indeed and it showed when it was time to cash out as you waited in line as the other person behind the counter figured out which ticket belonged to which customer. Needless to say it took a while to check out. Everything about this restaurant from the moment I walked in until I left was BAD!...
