WASABI Japanese Restaurant — Restaurant in Fayetteville

We are from FL and are used to very good sushi and have had a really hard time trying to find a good sushi spot since we moved here. Wasabi had good reviews and so we came and were not disappointed! The parking lot and overall surrounding area is a little sketchy but once inside it is very clean. I feel like if a sushi restaurant takes the time to make a good miso soup then you know their sushi will be good! Their miso is excellent! We also loved the small and quiet atmosphere. Great place for a peaceful date night! They also have very clean restrooms and their wait staff was very attentive and friendly. I was also happily surprised to learn they had gluten free soy sauce! The one thing that I wasn’t fond of was if you ordered something that had their “apple mayo” on it, it came with A LOT of mayo. I brought my friend to Wasabi because she identifies as Japanese. She was excited about the Bento box on the menu. She was a child in Japan during WWII. She remembered the happy feeling she experienced when she was 8 years old and she'd get her lunch at school in her Bento box. She ordered the shrimp, and I got the teriyaki chicken so we could taste one another's protein. Her shrimp was salty. My chicken was tastey, but it was very dry and had an unappealing texture. We shared our feedback with the server, who was very pleasant. The ginger sauce was delicious--pungent and not too sweet. The dumplings were crispy but a little greasy. The sushi was fair. I gauged my judgment based on my friend's opinion. I've eaten her sons' hand rolled sushi. Their rice isn't as gloppy. The menu has gorgeous photos. Ate here for the second time, the first time we had takeout. The second time we dined in. We came in on a Saturday afternoon and it was very quiet. We were the only customers but a family came in later and more people came in later when we were leaving. The atmosphere was nice, place was small but the staff made it warm and inviting. The food was delicious best tempura I've had in Fayetteville. I got a mixed shrimp and veggies tempura and the crunch was perfect, it was superbly done. I also ordered the double dragon and a Shrimp and Steak Hibachi plate. They didn't disappoint. The rice was excellent, my steak was seasoned well and it was a perfect medium rare.
