This cart was posted up outside of the Cheers bar last Friday night. I was DD'ing for my sister and just waiting around outside as I wasn't old enough to enter the bar. And, I had begun to build up an appetite as I sat there in the heat, so I got a couple of sausage dogs with Kraut and mustard.
They were great and all - very juicy, they snapped when you bit into them, and everything was well seasoned and well made. They weren't expensive, either.
But, more than the food, I'd like to attest to the service. Mike was operating the stand that Friday night. He's the owner and operator, and he was wonderfully friendly. We struck up a conversation about, like, business and school and foodservice in general, and made a bunch of small-talk. When I told him I liked Reubens (because we were talking about saurkraut and ingredients and such and how he's gonna open up a restaurant and expand the menu) and, he just, gave me a free sample of the pastrami he had since he didn't have much left over! He also gave me a free drink since I was a DD that night! He’s really a people person, and, though I would come back just for the dogs alone, I think I'd just ad quickly return just to strike up another midnight conversation with Mike. He's great. Mike, if you're reading this, you really were the highlight of my night and I hope to return soon, and definitely when the restaurant opens, of course, you really made me wanna try...
Read moreSimply calling what we ate here a "hotdog" would be an understatement. These were highly crafted, high quality, premium frankfurters. Being topped with the best of ingredients, each were focused on having thoughtful flavor of both the familiar AND the different in culinary synchronicity. With the 1st bite, my eyes widened in delighted suprise. We kept talking about what we had eaten after we left and I am quite sure we will never forget them. We tried the Chicago Dog, a Vienna Beef hotdog with mustard, tomato, relish, pickle, celery salt, and sport peppers on a poppy seed bun and the Cimarron Dog, topped with house made Uruguayan chimichurri and Peruvian pepper relish. Very delicious. Makes me want to try everything else there. But as good as the food was...our time and conversation with Karin was somehow inexplicably better. More than just taking our order, she spent time talking to us like we were friends. She seemed so happy to be working there and happy we were there. She had so many nice things to say about the owners, I wish I had a chance to meet them myself. If hotdogs are the soul of Dogslingers...then Karin is the heart. Thank you, Karin...Thank you, Dogslingers...You are appreciated and won't...
Read moreThe sandwiches are better than the hot dogs. Corned Beef sammy was Bussin, the hot dogs not so much. Please for the love of god do not put hot dog toppings on the bun and then the hot dog on top! Doesn't that defeat the purpose of slicing the hot dog open when cooking it to allow for more surface area for toppings to go on TOP? The toppings soaked into the bun and kind of ruined the chance to experience all of the different flavors in each bite. I basically ordered a Carolina Dog and was surprised to see very little toppings, in fact usually some chili will spill out when biting into a carolina dog at some point but there was so little chili on it and soaked into the bun that didn't happen. I would return to try their sandwhiches again but the hot dogs left us disappointed. Im not sure why ours came out like this because when we looked around we seen other order had the toppings piled high on top. The atmosphere was clean and casual, I would add some bar stools to the bar so that people waiting for 20min when busy have a place to sit and ditch the jazz music unless you want people to...
