So, Mi Casita at Raeford Road! My husband and I were in the mood for standard Mexican fare — you know, the Americanized kind where cheese is the main food group and everything comes second.
Like my last review — taste is absolutely subjective. It comes up very little. Just because I like or dislike a food or taste doesn’t mean you will either. Always use your own best judgment on food instead of trusting any review to know your taste buds.
1st Point: Safety, barely any of the high chairs have straps, and the booster seats don’t have straps either. Our twins are 1 year old and they don’t know how to sit still, really. We watched our kids like hawks but the lack of straps is dangerous, especially if we brought special needs kids into consideration. We had to ask twice and bother the poor servers to see if they had any with straps. Finally, they found two. ( If you have trouble figuring them out, they don’t go across the lap, it comes up from behind and wraps around the stomach. )
2nd Point: Accessibility, as a plus size person, these booths are kind of not the greatest. They do have chairs, but we were sat at a booth — which is fine. The table does move but if you are plus sized and carry in your stomach, or if you are pregnant and showing very far out, you might have a little bit of trouble sitting comfy without it digging into your stomach.
As far as accessibility goes, the walkways are kind of tight, even when it isn’t busy. We went during lunch period and I can foresee someone with a wheelchair or mobility aid might have trouble navigating safely and comfortably through the walkways. If it was busy, you might honestly just have an easier time swallowing a sword whole.
Now, the extras.
🌮 The price point is comparative to most American style Mexican restaurants. I really didn’t see anything over $20, but I didn’t exactly look for anything over $20 either. All kids meals are $6.99 flat with a soft drink included, regardless of age. They have both Mexican options, and of course, chicken tenders and fries for the more discerning of eaters!
🍹 Their drink options aren’t extensive. They have a Bahama Mama and a Tequila Sunrise, some other nice cocktails and whatnot. This is not a bad thing, of course. But if you’re expecting a margarita the size of your head flavored like strawberries and mangoes, you might wanna try somewhere else.
🌯 They don’t accept military discounts, which is fine, but factor that into your spending and don’t expect a military discount when trying to budget what you pick and choose, if a budget is a concern.
🫔 Gluten free options shouldn’t really be expected here. While it’s easy to make something vegetarian here ( rice and cheese, beans, for example ) you’d be hard pressed to find anything strictly vegetarian. Vegan options should also be removed from any expectations. There are menu options without cheese, and you can of course ask for no cheese or sour cream. This may be lactose safe.
🌮 While there during lunch, the music wasn’t loud. The lights aren’t overly bright. If there are sensory issues to consider, lunch may be relatively safe.
Overall, it had what I believed were good flavors and foods. My only real dislike was that the beef tips tasted like a pot roast and it kind of conflicted with the queso for my taste buds. If you’re looking for a typical American Mexican experience, this is the place. They were pretty busy and occupied with a birthday party so our service was lacking, but that can change at any time and won’t usually reflect a...
Read moreHi my name is James. I just left the tallyWood restaurant and here is my experience. I bring in a ten top worth of people at 9 PM and ordered the ranchero steak medium rare without the spicey sauce and a tamale to go. I recieved it from the waitress and it had the sauce on it still. No big deal I sent it back and waited patiently while are table said grace and began eating. When I received it the second time I cut it open to see it was well done. I told the waitress and she apologized. I told her I would eat it because I was hungry and not wanting to wait for another steak. Take in mind everyone is completing there meals by now. I started to eat and another waiter brought out my to go meal. I told him it was a to go meal and had to ask him to put it on the warmer tell I was done. SO after all this i start my meal and realize the waiter forgot to bring me the flower tortillas that come with my meal. I ask her she apologized and gos and grabs them. So I eat my meal and told her I would be on a separate ticket and I would like a discount for the issues threw the whole meal. So after waiting longer she said the manager said he would discount me. So I was like ok awesome I recieved my ticket and he had her take 3 dollars of my messed up meal. I asked her to ask him if i could at least get half off the 13 dollar steak. She leaves, comes back tells me he says NO.... So I asked her to talk with him... keep in mind everyone is at the table watching this with there eyes wide. The managers name is Fransico and is the brother of the owner by the way. So he comes out I said to him that I been around the service industry long enough to know mistakes happen but and the kitchen makes mistakes but 3 dollars off of two messed up steaks is ridiculous. He replys that it's his waiters fault not the kitchen and proceeds to argue with me on the discount amount. He huffs and says how much do you want off then ... I say at least half and he rolls his eyes and walks off. No apology no kindness no kind greeting nothing. Just disrespectful and acted like I was not worth his time. At no time did I raise my voice talk disrespectful to him or his staff or lash out about my meal. Iv managed people for many years and have been to many restaurants and never have I encountered that much unprofessionalism coming from a manager...
Read moreGreat place for family get togethers. We meet their regularly when we have birthday celebrations because it has a menu that our family likes. The staff is always friendly, efficient and accommodating. They quickly put together enough tables to seat 6 of us this time. Sometimes we've been there with 20 guests, and we are always graciously welcomed. The server kept the drinks and the salsa flowing. Orders were patiently taken and quickly prepared. MiCasita's always has other servers working together to bring out hot plates-- at the same time-- so everyone received their orders and no one awkwardly waited. MiCasita's also is accommodating with separate checks which alleviates awkwardness when it's time to pay the bill. Either as a couple or a large group, we've been going there regularly since 1990. Can't say why, but we prefer the location at Talleywood. And as far as the food-- it's quality. This time, everyone ordered something different. Some a la carte, such as a chicken supreme quessadilla with a crispy tortilla for me, rice and cheese sauce for my granddaughter, and ground beef in cheese sauce for my husband. Our niece, visiting from TX is originally from CA. She was impressed with the authenticity. She ordered enchiladas with "real" sauce-- not "Texas gravy" and tacuitos. My d-in-law had fajitas and my son had a Mexican pasta dish. Their friend had a traditional burrito combo--no guac and no sour cream. I mentioned all the food because every one had specific changes and everything was served correctly. And the portions are generous so there were lots to take home. The server took a great photo of our...
