I'm so glad to have found this gem. I grew up in China and I'm vegan. While vegan Chinese food options are common in the US, they are usually limited and taste mediocre, so I had learned to rely on Thai and Vietnamese restaurants to quench my cravings until I found the New Peking Wok.
They have a dedicated vegan menu. Each dish is incredibly delicious and flavorful. I don't know how they make them so tasty, and I know what you are thinking - it's not MSG. I am allergic to MSG and they never use it. The food still tastes freaking amazing without me having to worry about getting a migraine the next day. Their dishes are also not greasy like typical American Chinese restaurants.
The moo shu tofu with thin pancakes is fantastic, and so are all their tofu dishes, with perfectly fried tofu. The texture and flavor are on point. Don't forget to ask for the chili oil to go with everything (it's flavorful and not spicy).
The atmosphere is also very relaxing. With soft piano music in the background, it's easy to have conversations.
Aside from the delicious vegan food and relaxing ambiance, the owners Lisa and her husband, the staff (Yun, Angel, Ada), and the chefs are all exceptionally friendly. Every time I visit there, it feels like going to see my big auntie and her family. It's not because I happen to have the appearance of a lost Chinese kid in a foreign land, they treat every customer with such kindness and enthusiasm.
I only wish I lived closer so I could visit more often. If you love vegan Chinese food, definitely...
Read moreHadn’t been here in at least 20 years. Have been hearing good things about it so decided to give it a try for lunch. Best decision I’ve made in a long time …. Their lunch specials are $12.95 and 13.95 and they is enough food to have plenty of leftovers. We started with tea 🫖 and egg flower soup, wonton soup, and hot and sour soup. All of them were excellent and they make them fresh every day.🥣 I’m looking forward to coming back here and trying their sizzling rice tomato prawn soup!! We did get an appetizer plate for two and it was good, but you get enough food that you don’t really need it unless there’s something on there that you really love. I had the Mongolian beef with fried rice. It was definitely one of the best Mongolian beefs I’ve ever had. The beef was not chewy had good flavor and I loved all the vegetables that they put in it even though some people complain about them. It had water, chestnuts, bamboo shoots, green onions, mushrooms, and carrots, and it was served over the crunchy noodles. Definitely coming back and having this again. My daughter had the honey walnut prawns, and they two or exactly like they were supposed to be. The owner is a very sweet woman who’s on the restaurant for 11 years and she did come from grand Peking, which was my favorite Chinese restaurant for 35+ years. She makes the food the same as the grand Peking did but in some cases maybe even a little bit better All of this for lunch set the two of us back $50 and we still have enough leftovers for at least...
Read moreI ordered delivery from here a couple of weeks ago and everything was really flavourful but not everything was what I was expecting. I got the House Chop Suey, the House Crispy noodles, Kung Pow Chicken and Sweet and Sour pork. The chop Suey and crispy noodle dish are the exact same dish except one came with a bag of fried wonton strips which is not what I was expecting at all. Usually a crispy noodle dish comes with a large disk of fried Chow Mein noodles that you pour the meat and gravy on top of and it's more like a Chow Mein dish but this was served with just a few crispy bits to sprinkle on top of the "Chop Suey" mix so it was a waste to order two dishes that are exactly the same. The kung pow Chicken was so spicy I couldn't eat it but the sweet and sour pork was delicious. The pork had a fresh flavour and I always appreciate when it's packaged separately from the sauce. Everything tasted good except they don't put carrots in their dishes. The vegetables are a mix of celery, bamboo shoots, onion, water chestnut and bean sprouts. I really like carrots and broccoli and other heartier vegetables in my food because they're more filling and I feel a better value for your money. Would I order from here again? Only if I went to actually eat here so I could ask the particulars of the dishes. It was good and the servings were large but I really felt like I wasted my money and at a certain price point steamed rice should be free...
