The Original Waffle Shop West — Restaurant in Ferguson Township

I’m a big fan of breakfast diners. Anytime I’m on the hunt for some food and I see a highly rated breakfast diner, there’s a good chance that’s where I’ll end up.

I stopped at this place for “lunch” in the middle of a long road trip.

TLDR: They live up to their high rating.

Everyone in there was exceptionally friendly and the service was top notch.

I ordered French toast (one of my go-tos) with a side of hash browns (another go-to).

My wife ordered eggs florentine.

I sampled some of hers. She sampled some of mine. We agreed everything was delicious.

My French toast was thick and fluffy. My hash browns were made from fresh potatoes. My only complaint would be the lack of REAL maple syrup, but hardly restaurant EVER has that, so I don’t hold it against this one.

They also have a cool way for for you to pay right on your phone, if you want. Traditional payment methods (cash/card) are also an option, but the ability to scan my receipt with my camera and take care of everything right on my phone was too...

If your server goes by the name Sofia, leave, RUN if you can. She was hostile and short with us during every interaction. My husband begged to go to waffle shop for his birthday and that totally soured the mood. When it came time to pay she gave us the check and HOVERED over us while writing the tip and signing. Common courtesy would be to drop the bill off and walk away. The whole vibe was off, I don’t think we stayed more than 30-40 mins and barely ate the food. You can see how terrible the waiter was from the comically huge amount of food placed in what seems to be a cup sized to go box and YES that is two whole pancakes stacked under the potatoes and omelet. Not surprised to see that I’m not the only one who had a bad interaction with Sofia.

Now I get it! I've driven past the Original Waffle Shop a half dozen times and marvelled at the number of people willing to wait in line to get served. Must be good, I thought to myself. But, no! It's better than good! It's amazing! Definitely the best waffle shop I've been too.

Lots of great selections on the menu...and some delicious twists on the standards. My Banana Nut Belgian waffle was incredible. The service is cheerful and friendly and attentive. Our server, Ryan, had a great sense of humor. And, yes, thank you. I'll take another cup of coffee.
