Best Alfredo in town! (My previous rating was four stars which was from two years ago, but now that has changed drastically.)
A week ago, me and my wife were in town from Atlanta and we ALWAYS make it a point to come to Ruggero's to grab some chicken Alfredo and pizza swirls. We ordered those two items and it definitely wasn't what were accustom to when we order those dishes. The pizza swirls tasted funny as if they've dumbed down the recipe for budget concerns. It was almost like it had the taste of something prepackage. When it came to the Alfredo, it was greasy and didn't have any Alfredo sauce in it at all. Once it was brought to us, we sat there in confusion because we've never experienced anything medicore here. We called the waitress over and express our displeasure with our meal. She said she would take it back and see if they could remake it. After a few minutes, the manager came over and basically told once the Alfredo sits for awhile sometimes the grease breaks down which makes it look like that. As she's sitting there explaining this to us, I'm thinking when did it become cool to present a dish that looks like it could be on sale at your Speedway gas station. Once she told us nothing would change with the dish, we told her she could take it back and we'll pay for the things we did eat. With that being said, I'm not trying to exaggerate our experience there. As a child, I've been eating at this establishment and then is when they were located on Chevrolet Ave. This restaurant is definitely is an institution in our city and it seems as if the quality they stood on for DECADES is now decaying and it's terrible to witness. I don't know if Ruggeo's has taken a back seat to Vi'c's that's in the back of the building, but I know what I witness the other day will definitely be the start of plenty of others who will be disappointed when they come grab a...
Read moreI've been a customer of Ruggero's since they were located on Chevrolet Ave. in Flint, and have always enjoyed it. My most recent visit though, on June 13, 2025, not at all. The host failed to acknowledge my friend and I upon entry. The table was dirty, and it took several minutes before it was cleaned off. It was not busy at all yet the food took forever to come, over an hour for our entrees. The usually delicious "pepper bread" or foccacia was cold, greasy, and lacked pepper. We sent it back. Another batch was brought to us that was no better except that it was warm. My friend's soup was just warm, not hot. My salad was mostly head lettuce with a couple carrot shavings on it, two cherry tomatoes, and two slices of cucumber, despite there being a recall on them for salmonella. I did not eat the salad. I'd ordered their two pizza slices/salad/beverage combo and they brought me a whole pizza instead. It was hot, and pretty good, no complaints there. My friend ordered their deluxe lasagna, made deluxe due to three meats and mushrooms in it, and it came mostly dry. She didn't finish it. We were both really disappointed in the whole experience, and have decided that the next time we want Italian food, we will be going elsewhere. I hate to even say that because I've been a fan for decades but I can't ignore poor service or food. Sorry Ruggero's, you're gonna have...
Read moreSad to say this place is going downhill. I've been coming here for years and the last few times it just hasn't been the same but the last time I went will be the last time I ever go. My boyfriend and I both ordered lasagnas (I wanted eggplant parm but they were out no big deal). His food came out cold, not like it was sitting out a while cold, but like it came from the fridge cold. I asked if they could heat it up and she took the plate back. The food came back and was room temp at best. The food on the very top wasn't even a little hot. So we said alright we will just go home, packed the food up and planned on warming it up when we got home. We'll it gave him food poisoning and I honestly wished I would've sent it back and had them keep it. My lasagna had no cheese in the middle (like the ricotta blend) it was just mozzarella, toppings and noodles. It was more like a pizza bake than lasagna. Mind you we were one of maybe 5 other tables there, it was not busy at all. And yes we paid for the meal in full, we did not receive a discount nor did we want one we just wanted to go home...
