Love the pizza and hanging out for drinks with friends. Pam the bartender is always on point. Everyone in the bar is so nice and friendly. Friday night is trivia night

I’ve been coming to Vic’s for a little over a year (not including the period of time that the state was shutdown) bringing my friends, girlfriend, or meeting family here. The food is always good, and the drinks are priced extremely well too.

Unfortunately, despite the convenience of having a bar a mile down the road from my house, I can no longer be served here because my valid, non-expired Michigan drivers license is vertical. I don’t have to renew my license until the end of this year since it’s an enhanced license I applied for when I was 19 and it doesn’t expire for 4 years.

I wouldn’t leave a review about being denied service based on the fact that I don’t have a horizontal license if it weren’t for the fact I’ve been served here numerous times before without an issue - and I was served several times before by the same bartender who said that she couldn’t accept my ID because of the risk of it being fake. Further annoyance comes from the leniency other customers have gotten in regards to the mask mandate when businesses were allowed to open again - specifically the night that two customers both came in without a mask and were told (after they sat down at the bar, next to me), that they were required to wear a mask otherwise they wouldn’t be allowed to have service provided to them.

Which was then immediately back pedaled when I walked out to my car, grabbed an extra set of masks, and walked back in to the (still unmasked customers - who were great by the way, bought me a drink for helping them out) and gave them face masks that they could set down on the bar so that they could be served - and they were.

Checking the MLCC regulations that were put out in March of this year, chapter seven specifically addressed diligent inquiry (the same as it did over a year ago, when I first turned 21 and wanted to make sure Michigan wasn’t a state that outright banned the sale of alcohol to anyone with a vertical ID regardless of expiry status, which it isn’t) and the non-liability that businesses would have in some sort of hypothetical situation where someone comes in with a fake ID (or passport, military ID, or accepted photo ID) that’s so convincing that it looks identical to an actual ID - and also scans just like a real one, with matching info. If we’re talking about Michigan liquor laws and regulations, then in my situation the business also has a responsibility (again, from the MLCC (2021)) to file a police report if they suspect that someone under 21 has used or attempted to use fraudulent/forged identification to purchase alcohol, and to provide the forged piece of identification to law enforcement while filing the report in the instance that it was seized by the establishment.

Wouldn’t have left a review about anything if there wasn’t leniency involved in the mask mandate when bars and restaurants were allowed to open again, and if I hadn’t been served here multiple times before without an issue. Unfortunately for me, businesses do have a right to refuse service to anyone if they choose to, and they don’t have to accept my ID. On the fortunate side of things, I’ll be exercising my right to take my business to every other bar, restaurant, grocery store, and liquor store I’ve been to that has never had a problem with my use of a valid, vertical enhanced license, and I’ll continue to do so once I’ve renewed my ID at the end of the year and get my hands on one of these extra special horizontal IDs that you need in order to be served here. If you’re going to be lawful and follow regulations, at least...

Husband and I came in, on friends’ recommendation. They were raving about their food and we had been looking around for local bbq place in the area so we decided to give it a try. We walked in around 3pm Monday, no customers at all on the floor but there were about 4-5 customers at the bar. Bar tender/server was there too. The server didn’t even acknowledge us when we walked in even though she saw us/looked at us. We stood around for a minute or two, but decided to just sit ourselves. After a few mins, she finally approached us and asked what we wanted to drink. We both ordered iced tea. Still no hi or hello or how are you. When she returned with our drinks, we asked for the menu. She retuned with them and I told her it’s our first time here. But she didn’t say anything and left us and went back to the bar. We looked at the menu and noticed it was Ruggero’s menu so we were confused. My husband tried to call her attention but she didn’t look at our direction. She was more concerned with the folks at the bar. Perhaps they were her regular customers or something. We waited for, say 5 more mins, but she never returned to check on us. At this time we were already turned off. I know we could’ve approached the bar to get her attention. We didn’t do it cause we just wanted to leave. And as customers, and she knew it was our first time, she could’ve checked on us right away. There were absolutely NO ONE on the floor but us. But nope. Seems like she didn’t want us to be there and was too preoccupied chatting with the people at the bar. We stood and paid for our iced tea at the bar and walked away. She didn’t even say anything, like apologize or something to that effect. Nothing. So...
