We arived at 7:15pm for our 7:30 pm reservation and told no way to seat early. We set at the bar enjoyed the view, the service and conversation while watching the sky turned from watermelon cherry fluff to black night with a few sprinkle of light. If you come for the view come early. Once it is dark there is not much to see. I believe we forgotten at the bar and after a few less friendly comments about our wait in the uncrowded restaurant we were seated. It was 8:30pm. Were seated and refreshed our cocktails. I was a bit surprised at the cost of four Rockefeller oysters at $20. Once received I felt the price was fair. The oysters were served with a Mornay sauce poured on them that really drowned the delicate oyster flavor.there was a hint of spinach. I was hopeful for something with fresh shucked oysters placed over leaves of fresh spinach drizzled with wine then sprinkled lightly with paramedian cheese bread crumbs and crispy bacon bits. Of course the menu didn't even hint at a traditional oyster Rockefeller. I held out hope I think "Oysters Mornay" a better name. I ordered a strip steak m-rare my wife a filet medium. We both added asparagus my wife mashed potatoes. She loved the filet, loved the bread, asparagus was thinker than my thumb and as tough as an uncooked stick. No seasoning at all just greasy char from the grill. The potatoes tasted fresh and we're very good. My strip steak was awful and full of gristle and t o u g h. Strip loins are tough on the end cuts so really only the centers make good steaks for fine dining. No seasoning on the steak. I ate a third and asked to take the balance home. No one asked why I didn't want to make a scene on our anniversary. We made note in our reservation but no mention made. I had a flowerless torte with vanilla ice cream and coffee. Needed the ice cream so ask for it. Very good. My wife had the creme brulee with berries and she was very happy. I enjoyed the turning restaurant for the glimpses of the kitchen staff eating from the expo line while they hustled about. The facility was clean and the staff were friendly. The server assistant who made sure I got my ice cream was very appreciated. Worth the trip, go early to see the view. Staff is happy and energetic and ready to serve. The menus are creative and not run of the mill although if you read my reviews we follow a trend. Stay at the hotel. Go to swampers for the music in the bar. Best time our three nights there. They had sound system problems two nights but I bet they have those busted speakers...
Read moreFirst of all, the service last night was excellent. Our server, Jennifer, was attentive, spot on with her timing, and a good conversationalist. The atmosphere is very cool and restaurant appeared clean and well taken care of, despite the noticable aging of the tower, itself. However, I am rating this experience soley based on the meal, alone. My wife, my son, and myself decided to split a seafood tower, a tomahawk steak, and and an asperagus side. The seafood tower arrived, first, and in a timely manner. This was the part of the meal I was most exicted for. Sadly, other than the caviar and pita bread, most of this dish was inedible. Being served cold is one thing, the crab claws and king crab were partially frozen. The lobster tails, crab, crab claws, and shrimp all tasted the same... bad. My wife described the flavor best - "musty". The oysters and mussels tasted spoiled, this is not an exageration. They tasted positively rotten. It has been a long time since I have spit food out so quickly. The Halibut Ceviche looked delicious, but I'm not a fan of halibut, so I can't really say one way or the other. Finally, the tomahawk ribeye and asperagus. The steak was cooked to perfection - slightly below medium-rare. However, it reeked of a bitter smokiness, that also transferred to your pallet, while at the same time being absent of any other desirable flavor profile. The artificial smokiness was way too much to overcome. In the end, we consumed less than one-third of the seafood tower, less than half of the ribeye, and one slice of asperagus. We did, however, order and extra basket of the french bread, so as to not leave hungry. In total, our meal was approx. $375 plus an $85 tip. Very reasonable pricing had the food been prepared in a remotely decent manner. We left feeling taken advantage of. Even though we never complained, the server noticed that we were not enjoying the entrees and offered us a free dessert. We don't typically eat dessert, so we declined. Overall, we were very disappointed with our visit; this is a shame because the setting offers so much potential for a...
Read moreWe were excited to dine here since their new renovation, which was well done and provides great ambiance. It is more open than the previous design which is especially nice in the bar area. We were there on a very quiet Wednesday night this past week (after Valentines week) and we were sadly so disappointed in our experience. We sat at the bar for a pre-dinner cocktail and the bartender was very flustered despite there being only 4 of us at the bar and a restaurant with very few tables occupied. Once we were seated it was a long wait to be acknowledged and finally the sweet young man bringing water and bread out said hi to us. He clearly had not been educated by his training manager that there was a large wine list, as we were told that the only wine available was on the “by the glass” list. No, there is an extensive wine list that he was not educated about. Training failure for this young man, not his fault. We eventually met our server (after a very long time lapse) and ordered our wine and meal…our meal was delivered by someone completely different and we never saw our primary server again until he came to clear our plates. Our meals had been delivered lukewarm at best but NOBODY checked on us during our meal. There was a manager on duty wandering around but he was definitely not engaging with guests. We had steak as one of our meals and neither the server nor the manager stopped to ensure that it was cooked to our liking. For a meal that cost greater than $200 we honestly expected higher standards and a better food/service experience. We do not expect to be treated like royalty but we sure expect attentiveness and excellent food temperature/quality for a meal at this price point. Lots of potential for this restaurant but we will be...
