Basil's Bradenton Manatee Ave. Review

Main Question: Is the food worth the money? Yes, there wasn't anything bad about the taste of this food.

Cleanliness: The place was kept very clean, even the bathrooms. Thank you for that. I did not get pictures of the bathrooms.

Service: There really isn't any service here. You go up to the counter and order your food and then you pick up the food and sit down. Almost like a cafeteria at a school. So I cannot judge on something that is not there. The people behind the counter were nice.

Food: We ordered two Gyro wraps, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes.

I see the other reviews saying that the portions were small. While I can agree, I am going to point out that the portions were good enough that I felt satisfied when I left the place. I did feel like I was going to be hungry about an hour later, however. It is an hour later and I am hungry again.

I will say, the food that was served was only lukewarm. We picked up our food immediately upon being called, and it was not hot by any means of the term. Even the chicken soup, while it was the hottest thing on the plate, was not hot. It was okay temperature.

The mashed potatoes were not hot and borderline room temperature.

The Gyros were cold because of the lettuce but that lettuce was crisp, very good tasting, not wilted, and very much appreciated so I don't mind that so much. I probably will not order the wrap again because the lettuce was pulled out of the chiller and makes the meat cold. I will order the sandwich that comes on a pita next time.

The macaroni and cheese was borderline room temperature.

This is what brings me to four stars for this place.

Presentation: For the type of restaurant that this is, this is got to be one of the better presentations I have seen. I mean, that food came out looking so beautiful. It had the perfect amount of gravy on the mashed potatoes. While the mashed potato portion was really tiny, it looked so beautiful. The macaroni and cheese came out and looked amazing and the gyro wraps were gorgeous looking and you could tell a lot of time went into preparing those. Thank you for such a beautiful presentation. If a review was all about presentation, this would be five stars.

Pricing: I've got to hit home on this one. I disagree with the other reviews that say the portions weren't worth the price. I think they are spot on for what I received for the price they charged. I have paid a lot more for a lot less at restaurants. I want to thank them for keeping their prices competitive.

Recommended: Yes, I would recommend coming here. Just keep in mind that the food does not come out hot. It comes out room temperature. It is not bad food by any means. We were looking for something a little more healthier so we thought we'd give Basil's a try so we came in and ate inside. I had the chicken breast which was good the only thing I would say is the utensils are plastic and very hard to cut a chicken breast with.

I'm not knocking it for them keeping costs down with plastic utensils you just may want to take out only for the chicken.

I had mashed potatoes with gravy I will say it was lukewarm and not completely hot but still very good.

My wife had the chicken wrap and she enjoyed it with her side of green beans.

I had a great conversation with the owner who said that his grandfather started the business years and years ago.

You can tell how well liked this places is by the amount of food they have on the open flame broil ...see pictures.

A lot of people coming in for takeout which I'm sure is a big part of their business.

The place is immaculately clean. A lot of Pride goes into this place you can tell.

I also used the washroom and it was spotless.

I for sure want to come back and try some other things on the menu like the barbecued ribs looked really good.

I definitely recommend this place come on down and support this local business
