Beaches Boardwalk Cafe — Restaurant in Florida

This is the ONLY BAR in terminal B. The line was very long, but it didn't feel like a long wait. We visited at 5pm on a Monday. The male server was acting as host and maybe even a manger role? They seemed to be understaffed and overwhelmed. We finally got a seat at the bar (party of 2). We sat next to the serving station and there was this smell of sewage or dampness that we observed. Gross. We ordered our first round of drinks from the bartender and overheard her complaining about other members of the staff, lack of wine glasses available, and just overall frustration. I think it was extremely unprofessional. I am Celiac so I reviewed the menu and ask a few questions about gluten free options. The bartender declined having GF options other than chips. So I got a Caesar salad, NO croutons and dressing on the side. The salad came out with croutons on it and dressing on the side. Being Celiac, we cannot have gluten nor cross contamination of food items touching gluten products. I didn't bother saying anything because they seemed so busy and I felt more of an inconvenience. I stopped ordering drinks after this and didn't want to give this place a penny more of my money. Meanwhile my husband had an IPA and a burger. The staff is friendly, yet super busy, plus they do deal with lots a "bad" travelers. So I sat down at the bar 1-30-2022, 2pm, since i flew via RSW weeks prior i noticed the tv still posted a sign stating Direct TV was out/broken. A employee confirmed it was down, and it had been down for more than a month, maybe even 8 weeks. I asked why no fix and apparently is was a Direct TV issue, and something about a storm. Okay, seated next to the beer taps and unfortunate the 3 compartment sink used for washing glass ware, with my N95 mask on I noticed a stench, i bloody thought they just cleaned the grease trap but after a little time i suspect the trap below the sink is fouled up. Both my bar mates, left and right noticed this too, we hung in and had our beverages. Super simple fix for a stinky sink/drain,plus the fruit fly issue in the place is also an issue. I didn't approach any manager as the place was slammed plus continuous negative sounding chatter amongst the staff I sensed all were stressed. I am a chef myself and know the intensity can affect a fast paced environments. Ii am writing to HMS Host who manages the restaurant so they can help the location. came in here around 11:30 am 5/22/24 for my husband to grab a beer before our long flight home after an amazing vacation. Both sat down at the bar when the older Caucasian lady working the bar approaches us and IMMEDIATELY says “you don’t look old enough to sit here” I chuckle and explain that I’m not having a drink, but I hand her the id anyway, and as I’m doing this, she wants to get buck and says “since you want to laugh, I’m definitely id-ing you now” and “you have to be 21 to sit here” in the most condescending tone. I could tell by the look on her face she WANTED me to be underage so she could have some type of power over me. It’s 11:30 am on a Wednesday, do you really think we’d be trying to “sneak” drinks? I could tell that’s what she wanted us to be doing so she could “catch” us. Of course after this I had some choice words because I will not be treated as such, just sitting down at a bar! Showing her my ID was never the issue, it was her IMMEDIATE terrible condescending attitude the moment we sat down, and, the way we were treated. Don’t act like a condescending b word and you won’t be called one;) Please do better! You never know what people are going through....
