A Turnaround Story: A Tale of Two Owners and One Pizzeria
I've lived across the street from this pizzeria for almost three years, and my relationship with it has been a complicated one. Allow me to explain.
The Old Management: A Sour Experience
About a year ago, I decided to give the restaurant a try and ordered a pizza. To my disappointment, I wasn't satisfied with my slice. When I took it back to the store to exchange it for a different slice, the interaction with the owner at the time was less than pleasant. Instead of addressing the issue, the owner took offense and thought I was badmouthing his product. It escalated to the point where I was insulted, which led me to swear off the restaurant, even though it was right across the street.
The Cleanliness and Food Quality: Consistently Good
Despite the unfortunate interaction, it's worth noting that the restaurant has always been clean, and the food, generally speaking, is good. So it wasn't the product itself that kept me away but the service and attitude.
New Management: A Breath of Fresh Air
Recently, the business has come under new management, and what a difference that has made. Richard and Sara, the new owners and a married couple, have brought a whole new energy and ethos to the place. Not only are they wonderful people, but they are also extremely people-oriented and kind. They are going out of their way to earn the community's business and have made it a point to invite anyone who has felt they could not come back for any reason.
An Invitation for Redemption
Richard and Sara are putting out a challenge: Come back and let them earn your business. With their attitude, I couldn't resist taking up that challenge, and I must say, I don't regret it one bit.
More Than Just Pizza
An interesting side note is that they also own the flower shop next door, adding a touch of charm and community spirit to their business endeavors.
In Summary: A Happy Ending
In a nutshell, this pizzeria has gone from a place I actively avoided to one that I would happily recommend. The transition in management has breathed new life into this establishment, making it not just a place for good food but also for great community relationships. Richard and Sara, you have won me over, and I'm thrilled to see what the future holds for...
Read moreStopped in to have pizza and met the owner - who at the time was an older man who’d bought the business after selling his longtime NY pizza business, had semi-retired, and then eventually moved to FL. Pizzas and garlic knots ordered during that visit were great! Owner even brought us a dish of zeppolis which were also great! We even recommended NY Pizza to people after our experience (regrettably…).
Stopped in a couple of months later for a pizza to go. It was inedible and just awful! Undercooked, overloaded with cheese - so much so that the crust was wet and had to be scraped from the box in pieces. Tossed the entire thing. One-off? Maybe…owner wasn’t there when order placed. Assumed we’d try again with owner on site to oversee the quality of what was being served. Had to give the benefit of the doubt with the take-out disaster and never considered leaving a bad review after our stellar first visit.
Returned tonight - if it’s still owned by the same person, it is now run by someone else. Our take-out experience was no fluke. The food is awful.
Garlic knots were delivered upon taking our seats (nice touch) but they were hard, stale, and flavorless. The chewy NY style crust is gone. One of the pizzas was ordered well-done - hoping to avoid a repeat of the take out experience. Pizza arrived and, just as with the take out pizza, it was drowning in undercooked, excessive cheese and toppings, so much so that no sauce was visible and, other than a crusty bottom, one might have assumed the pizza had not finished being cooked. Long after it arrived, the waitress stopped by and saw the pizza sitting uneaten. Asked if we might like a slice of cheese pizza. We passed. It was time to go.
Someone in our party ordered ravioli which arrived long before the pizza. They ate alone while the rest of the group waited for pizzas. How hard is it to time reheated ravioli?? The $16 (!) Ravioli dish was sad. 6 or 7 small raviolis topped with sauce and cheese that had barely been warmed.
Suggestion: when you advertise specials that are only valid M-Th, you should be sure to include in the ad or on your coupons when your offers are valid. Thought we’d skip pizza tonight and try an advertised offer only to be told not available Fridays.
