I was excited to see the new Pita Place in Gateway (across from Gartner) finally opened. I love a good Pita place for a quick lunch. Here’s an honest review:
I bought a single pita and added a medium drink. The total came to $12.50 which seemed outrageous in my opinion, especially for lunch. The Pita is roughly $9 and a ice tea from the fountain dispenser was roughly $3. WHAT? Lunch should cost less than $10, period, especially for a wrapped up grab-and-go pita. The Pita was decent, it had lots of tzatziki on it, the meat was fine and the pita wrap was good too. The pita wasn’t bulging with other toppings like a lot of other Greek places Ive been too. There’s no shredded lettuce or feta cheese on it. I assume they have those ingredients becuase this place also makes salads. For $12.50, I should be able to build the pita any way the customer wants. The pita comes with three large potato slices cut in the shape of French fry wedges. To be honest, they were kind of gross as it was just like eating an undercooked baked potato. I had to force them down becuase I was still hungry from the pita. Regular fries would be fine if they had that capability, or a side of potato salad, rice, hummus or even a side salad... again, these arent unreasonable requests for a $12.50 lunch.
The owner and the employees seemed nice, and they work really hard. My only issue was the value. I simply wont go her for lunch anymore at $12.50 for a small pita and a drink, especially when I walk away still hungry. That’s a shame, becuase I had high hopes...
Read moreOur First Visit Not Too Good, But We’ll Try Again We were in the area returning from an appointment and had a craving for a gyro. I pulled over, did a search on my phone and found this place. Ratings were four plus stars, must be good. We went in and saw a Daily Special, a gyro, drink and desert for $13.95. We ordered two specials, drinks and rice pudding as desserts. Nobody else in the place and the kitchen staff got to work on our order. We’re sitting there for just a few minutes and my wife says ‘you know, we are getting pork gyros?’ Oh no, that’s not what we wanted, but too late to do anything about it. After all, how mad can it be? Well, this was not a good experience. Look at my photos and tell me there’s more than 4-5 shaved bits of pork on this sandwich. Loads of tomato and onion and lots of tasty tzatziki sauce on a soft, warm, wonderful pita, but the lack of meat is shameful. I reread some of the reviews and wondered what day the ‘meaty portions’ were served. And straight pork gyros? If it wasn’t for the sauce, it would have tasted like a sliced pork roast pita sandwich with onion and tomato. I looked behind the counter and only saw the one spit that our meat came from so I don’t know if we could have a had a ‘real’ lamb and beef gyro that day anyway. But hey, the fries were good and the rice pudding was really good. Our daughter has been there and she raves about it so we will try it again and I will call ahead to make sure the real meat is...
Read moreWorst Gyro Ever...All of the food was terrible. We ordered 2 chicken gyros and one traditional gyro. The traditional gyro was actually chunks of gyro meat, not sliced...which is why they make gyro slicers that cut off the spit. The meat was dry and disgusting. The tzatziki was just about absent. The whole thing was just thrown together. Tomatoes did not taste or look fresh. I'll post the pics on Yelp. Gyros must to be one of the most challenging items to get wrong and somehow this place screwed it up. The chicken gyros were absolutely disgusting. No flavor. Not basil. Not oregano. Nothing. They could not even be bothered to trim fat from the chicken. Ordered a side of roasted potatoes which were also just terrible. Not roasted but soggy and just awful tasting. A side of fries, no bigger than a medium order anywhere else, was 4.95 which is pretty much ridiculous...and the fries...they too were horrible. This is simple fare that is impossible to get bad yet somehow they managed. If it was one of the items bad, it would be explainable but four different menu items bad? They just don't know what they are doing. Plus, the place looks stark...no music, very few seats. Really wanted to like this place and turned out to be some of the worst food I have ever had in my...
