Island Grill — Restaurant in Florida

I'm usually one to support local businesses, especially when it represents my cultural roots, but my experience at Island Grill was deeply disappointing. Firstly, the service was far from commendable. The lady at the front desk was not only abrupt but also downright rude. When I addressed a concern about my meal, I was met with hostility instead of understanding.

The food did not fare any better. The rice was both slippery and bland, lacking any trace of spices or salt to give it some life. Hoping for an easy solution, I politely asked if I could replace the rice with plantains. Not only did I not get a response, but I was also ignored, and when I persisted, she raised her voice at me. It was very uncalled for.

I believe every restaurant should prioritize two things: the quality of the food and the experience of the customer. Sadly, Island Grill failed on both counts during my visit. The individual I interacted with should strongly reconsider her position in the service industry. I have been going to this place for many years. But today’s experience may be my last time going here. I ordered the legume and told the girl over the phone please make sure there’s meat in my legume. I arrive to pick up my food, and she proceeds to tell the man working there in creole that “I’m crying for meat” Maybe she didn’t think I understood. But she kept saying it over and over, to the point it irritated me. If you want to speak about a customer who is paying money for a service, wait till they leave. They shouldn’t have to feel mistreated by the employees. It’s obvious she has no class or education. I told the man behind the counter, I have been coming here longer than she’s worked there. So today I had the taste for some Haitian food, being that I was my first time and I was in the area, I decided to give this place a try. BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE. I ordered a number 3, the complete griot plate. I only had 4 pieces of griot, ALOT of rice and no plantain. I paid complete price w complete food. And to make matters worse, there food was not fresh tasting. This makes me never wanna try haitain food again but I know that will never happen because I will find better. This place is a waste of time and not worth the drive. And for the love of god please hire friendlier staff....
