A Deeply Disappointing Experience at Island Kitchen & Grill
I truly wanted to enjoy Island Kitchen & Grillāespecially given how seamless and convenient the ordering process was. I had every intention of becoming a repeat customer. Sadly, what I received fell drastically short of expectations and left me with serious concerns about the kitchenās standards and overall food quality.
To begin with, I waited over an hour for my order to be prepared, only to receive food that I ultimately couldnāt even eat. The rice was significantly undercookedāfar too firm and dry to be palatable. It lacked both flavor and texture, making it difficult to enjoy even as a base.
I had paid an additional $4.00 for a large plate, which was supposed to include a third side item: a festival. Unfortunately, that item was never provided, and no explanation or acknowledgment was given at the time of pickup.
I had specifically requested oxtail gravy to be served over the entire meal, as this was clearly presented as an option during the ordering process. However, what I received was a disappointingly sparse drizzleāso minimal it seemed almost deliberate. It felt as though the kitchen was rationing it with extreme reluctance, which severely diminished the richness and cohesion of the dish.
The steamed cabbage, which should have added a fresh and comforting contrast, was borderline inedible. Its taste was so off-putting that I genuinely questioned whether it had spoiledāit emitted a bitterness and odor that rendered it entirely unappetizing.
As for the fried chicken, it was perhaps the most concerning aspect of the meal. It had a stale flavor, almost as if it had been previously cooked, left to sit, and then hastily re-fried upon ordering. Yet despite this, it still arrived undercookedāa perplexing and frankly alarming oversight. Undercooked poultry is not only unpleasant but a serious health risk.
I generally make it a point to support local establishments, especially those offering culturally inspired cuisine. However, this experience left me not just disappointed but genuinely uneasy. After waiting over an hour, to not even be able to eat the meal was incredibly frustrating. Thereās a clear need for improvement in food preparation, quality control, and customer value. Until then, I simply cannot recommend this...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is the worst jamaican food Iāve ever had in my life. Donāt even bother to waste your time coming here. I got oxtail with rice and peas, and a side of cabbage. After waiting 1.5 hours for my food I thought it was going to be very good. They mustāve paid people to put decent reviews on here. I ordered a large meal only to be largely disappointed. The cabbage was mushy as hell and inedible. The oxtail tasted like something that wasnāt fresh although it was claimed to be just made. The rice was mushy and undercooked at the same time, where they do that at? Anyways Chile, moral of the story⦠donāt bother. Best part of the meal...
