We wanted to check this place out ,as it has entertainment along with food. We stopped in, parking is hard to find. I actually had to turn around thinking the parking was behind the building. The parking entrance is on the north side of the building on a dirt road. It’s basically one way in the building itself is very old which we usually don’t mind, but it was very unclear as to where the main entrance of the building is. So we went in the front to a very small entrance where the entertainment was going on and the doors were open. I found a server ask where we checked it. She pointed us in the right direction to a man who appeared to be the manager. I told him there were three of us. He looked around and walked us back out. The front door looked at my grandson And said follow me. They were very busy this night. My grandson followed him walking back from around the building with a picnic table. They put it down on the sidewalk in front of the building and that’s where we sat. The table was very dirty, and the young man helping my grandson bring the table, went inside and grabbed some spray and paper towels and wiped it down. The server came over very nice server, took our orders, and came back in a timely manner. The Ropa nachos did not have as much flavor as I expected. The food we had was just OK. The entertainment was very good. The place was very busy with a lot of regulars that it looked like. So when the bill came, not even the appetizer was taken off. I would have thought that beings my grandson had to help carry a table for us to sit down at they would have at least done something. It’s not like we were asking for anything free, but this is very very very unusual. The staff is very friendly. I told who I thought was the manager that they needed a bigger building beings they were so extremely packed that we needed to carry a table out and set it on the sidewalk beside the road in order for us to sit down. His response was no I think people like the packed house. Well, sure, but not having to carry a table in order for you to sit down. Anyway, the service was good. The food was OK but nothing to brag about. The clams were mostly breading! The entertainment was very good. So unless we go for just the Entertainment , like it looked like most people did this would probably be the only way we would return. Again, the...
Read moreOk to start with, I had no plans on writing a review. Im a normal dude not a blogger , that was looking for lunch. I checked the price before going to the restaurant for a Cuban sandwich - website for JR's states 7.95. I go in sit alone at bar and order the food. Retired Bar tender asks if I was chips or fries with it, I tell him fries. Food comes, Its good; even might say excellent tasting. The Cuban was authentic and the fries were so good I didn't need ketchup. Here's the rub; Wait for the receipt- no bartender for about 7 mins; its ok though enjoying the atmosphere. He comes by hand him my CC to pay, He prints off a receipt that has half of it printing, no price of tab. I tell him that it has no price on it, He states its right there although on further inspection cannot locate it. Bartender guy calls another guy to look at machine, cannot figure it out. I tell both of them, the printer is only printing half of receipt. After 5 mins of troubleshooting they decide to print on a different printer, mysteriously it works although it states 12.62 roughly and I'm told they cant give me a copy. I ask about the jump in price and guy states I have a drink and fries; I point out I have water. He states because of the fries its extra and the Cuban is 10 something. I didnt ask for fries on ordering, he asked me whether I wanted chips or fries with sandwich, I assumed( ASS_U _ME) this was inclusive but kept that to myself. I say OK ; kinda roll my eyes a bit and pay the bill, and regret leaving a cash tip. Real question is, Will I return. I liked the food, the small homey atmosphere. Customer service has flown out the window and down the road. I like the location being less than a mile from my house, Id consider it but will keep a tight eye on the bill next time. Also If I return, I would sit at a table and...
Read moreOne of the best burgers I've had in a long time. I was drawn to this place by their claim of the best burger in Sarasota and the other reviews on Google. I love a good burger and thankfully JR's didn't disappoint. I went with the Colossal burger including grilled mushrooms, onions and bacon. Absolutely delicious!😋 The burger was big and the bun large enough to match with all of the ingredients. The 999 sauce was really good and not just some thousand island -1. The quality of the bacon on the burger was great and stood out. French fries and coleslaw were really good to match. The place definitely had a "joint" feel to it with live music and simple interior. If you're a fan of diners, drive ins and dives this place could be a DDD. I just ordered pickup and the bartender was super friendly with the order ready when I arrived. No online ordering, car side to go, pick up cubby holes or anything fancy. Just old school call ahead they'll have really good food ready! They claim to have a great cuban sandwich and I'll definitely be back to try it. The parking lot is unpaved and a little bumpy. Don't wash the car...
