There's a Monte Alban in Andrews NC that is my favorite Mexican restaurant but it's quite a distance from my home in NC. The best tamales that I've ever had and that made it worth the seventy mile drive.
On holiday in South Florida, I was searching for a good restaurant (I've found that most Mexican restaurants down here are rather bland) and Monte Alban showed up in the search results. I was thinking there's no way it's the same folks but the menu looked the same and even the dishes looked similar.
We visited this afternoon, upon arrival I was still thinking no way. It's in a strip mall with just a small sign over the door. Once inside I changed my mind, looks great inside with very similar decor to the Andrews location.
They brought out the chips and salsa and as soon as I tasted the salsa I knew they were the same. Score!
I ordered my beloved tamales and when they arrived it was a glory to behold. The mole was dark and beautiful and the cheese was scattered and melted perfectly.
They were absolutely phenomenal, nailed it.
I am convinced that this is the best Mexican food that you will find in Florida.
Don't let the unassuming front fool you, this is the real deal. It's not flashy and it's in a strange location but the food is TOP NOTCH.
If you're looking for flashy you can get that in town, if you're interested in taste... this should be your destination.
If I lived down here this would be my main restaurant and I would make it a couple times a week.
I cannot recommend this place...
Read moreI feel like you can make a safe assessment of a restaurant based on how good the most basic dish is. And that's why this place stands out to me.
I'm a simple eater, and one day, I was just craving some beans and rice. I found this place at random and ordered refried beans and yellow rice. They were perfect. The rice was hydrated and well-cooked, tastes great on its own. The refried beans were great too, but as they cool, they begin to taste a little more generic. Either way, they're very satisfying to eat and they reheat well.
I've also had ground beef tacos from here, quite tasty. A friend of mine ordered a quesadilla and loved it, despite insisting he didn't like Mexican food.
Oh, and the salsa. The cynic in me assumes they must order their salsa in a giant can that probably gets distributed to a lot of restaurants, but it sure doesn't taste like it. I think this salsa is perfect. It's not too chunky, it's flavorful, and it's got a very pleasant spice to it.
Please, try this place out if you're craving Mexican food. I really enjoy it. I'm giving them five stars because their service is good, their food is above expectations for the price, and the food itself is consistent. I've never had a bad...
Read moreWe've been wanting to visit this establishment and try something new. The reviews mentioned that this was a excellent place for Mexican food. Without a doubt the reviews were correct. We went there on a Wednesday early evening around 4:30 and we had a great choice of seating. Since it was Margarita hump day we had no choice but to try them, there delicious and refreshing. Iro our server was courteous and professional, he gave me plenty of time to look at the large menu. There's plenty of pictures and descriptions of the dishes. I asked what he liked and it was the Pollo Hawaiian so this is what I ordered. Debi had the steak which came with all the peppers, oniobs, rice, beans, lettuce, tomato and tortillas. What a large portion, we had plenty to go after we got filled up on a delicious dinner! We will have to return again to try something else on this marvelous menu. The place is clean and very comfortable and cozy. Excellent atmosphere and located in a safe area with...
