This review pains me to write as Sunnyside was our "go to place" just three months ago. Based on what we experienced, they've replaced almost all the wait staff that worked with a sense of urgency, along with all the competent cooks.
We have a "three strike rule" with restaurants that are usually good and sadly, Sunnyside burned thru them in one week.
First episode was a set of poorly cooked "over medium" eggs. Since this was the first time in forever, I just exchanged eggs with the wife and we carried on with our meal.
Second strike was a simple sausage and cheese omelette that the cook decided needed onions and ham too. Had to send that one back and the wife ended up eating alone as they refired my meal.
Third and final strike was just a couple days ago. We arrived around 10ish on a Tuesday morning, so it wasn't unusually busy, said our greetings to the servers, and took a seat at one of the booths near the register. And waited. And waited. And waited some more. We got up and grabbed our own menus, hoping this would spark some sense of urgency in the staff...it was met by a "I'll be there in a bit to get your drink orders" by Peg. So we waited more. A little while later she showed up and took the drink order. We said we knew what we were ordering, but she turned back toward the kitchen and as she was walking away, stated "I'll be right back with those drinks and will take your order."
Literally FIVE MINUTES LATER, no drinks, no Peg.
Other patrons arrived, sat down, received drinks, and placed orders, and we were still waiting on our server.
Another THREE MINUTES LATER (so now, almost 15 minutes after sitting down), still no drinks, still haven't ordered breakfast, and just listening incredulously as the wait staff is standing around BSing with the regulars at the counter.
There was a newer, young server (didn't get her name) who was really working hard, but she was the only one showing any sense of urgency and pride in her work.
Sadly, we won't be returning. Not when there are other breakfast places that take better care of their customers. Really disappointing too, as this place is close to the house...but I would rather drive an extra five minutes somewhere else than sit there waiting for a drink for 15.
Anyhow, the TL;DR on this one is that the place rocked three months ago, but now it looks like they've fired/replaced all the competent staff with folks who don't care, have no sense of urgency, and are incompetent.
Sadly, we can't and won't recommend this...
Read moreIn my opinion, Sunnyside Up is Sunnyside Down ☹️ Our group from 4-6 are frequent patrons of this restaurant. Two days ago four of us had ordered our breakfasts after being politely greeted by our waitress. Once our food had been brought to us, I found a hair in my food. We called for a waitress and told her about the hair. She apologized and took the plate back to the kitchen. Momentarily the owner came back with my plate and curtly told me they could not find a hair in my omelet. I picked up and showed her the potato the hair was in - she turned and went back to the kitchen without a word. A few minutes later she returned with food COVERED WITH FOIL and to further insult & humiliate me, she said 'I can't understand how this could happen, everyone in the kitchen had dark hair".. insinuating my hair was in the food since it was light colored. (My hair was tied back & I had a hat on) When my husband went to the counter to pay, he told the owner/cashier that he didn't appreciate the way she handled the situation especially by covering the food. She said she was trying to protect the food. He said her first plate wasn't protected At that point, the co-owner/cook came out rudely yelling at my husband. In turn my husband proceeded to tell the patrons what took place. The owners didn't want any part of that so they had the audacity to call the police. The owner followed my husband outside and continued with the rude accausations and throwing out trespassing. We decided to leave and once home, spoke to the responding officer. He politely listened and assured us there were no reprecussions on either side. NEEDLESS TO SAY, WE WON'T BE GOING BACK. There are too many restaurants in the area that offer as good, if not better food without the rudeness - people who appreciate their customers. On the one positive note, the waitresses were very apologitic (unlike their superiors) and always do a wonderful job - especially Dannie & Pattie.. We will miss you...
Read moreANOTHER UPDATE and it's not good! This restaurant is at a convenient location to me so we again ended up here. Apparently their answer to dirty ketchup bottles (my prior review) is to put ketchup in little containers with lids. This last visit, we sat at the breakfast counter where we could watch the waitstaff prepare the plates for delivery to tables. We watched the staff grab these little containers of ketchup, put them on plates and deliver food. All good until I saw a waitress bring back dirty dishes and she took the ketchup cups from the dirty plates and set them on the counter next to the stack of the other prefilled cups. A little later, I watched another waitress organize these cups, taking the used ones and restacking them with the other, allegedly, unused containers of ketchup.
UPDATE We decided to try this place again and it remains a huge disappointment. They brought a ketchup bottle with ketchup all over the cap (posted pic) like it's that difficult to wipe the bottle off before putting it on someone's table?! Food was again served luke warm, one side of husband's toast was burnt and the other side barely toasted. Food may be cheap but it's not very good, they overcharge for a cup of coffee and there is ZERO customer service!
Went there for the first time and last time. 3 people in our party, 2 of us ordered omelets. Server mixed up the omelets even when I repeated my order as she was handing me my plate. Only after the guy in my party covered his plate with hot sauce, did I realize that my lukewarm order was incorrect. I sent my omelet back to be corrected because this one had spinach in it and the same omelet came back to me with a pile of diced ham and sausage placed under the omelet. I sent the omelet back and cancelled my order. We were credited for both omelets on the bill but lukewarm food, lack of quality control and poor customer service will surely...
