12-14-2023 Edit
I solemnly have to say Taco Del Oro has changed since my initial review a few years ago. The past year, I've eaten at Taco de Oro and I have noticed the flavors are not as pronounced as they used to be. The seasoning has been greatly reduced on the meats, though the atmosphere, value for dollar, and customer service has remained the same. I have held off on this edit for a while as I wanted to eat here a few more times, and it's been a total 4 separate occasions throughout the past few months that I have had the same experience. I know workers change, chefs change, etc, but please Taco de Oro, return back to the flavors you were a year ago!
Hmmm where to begin..... I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place as THIS IS THE BEST TACO STAND IN TAMPA!!! I've been visiting Del Oro at least once a month and sometimes twice a week for over 4 years and everyone I know I tell about the great food they have here. Of the plethora of taco stands in Tampa, (Lolita's is very good) this place takes the crown. I still visit multiple taco stands and have been to about 25 different stands in Tampa and this place sets the bar I compare other tacos to. Capital Tacos is delicious, with very unique and tasty tacos, but Del Oro again takes the crown. You cannot beat the price for the amount of food you get, from an 8 dollar burrito that leaves you stuffed but you keep eating because your mouth is watering, to classic street tacos smothered in cilantro and onion for only $2. The supreme tacos are COVERED with toppings and you always have more in the styro to scoop up and eat with your fingers. I've seen the same guy at the counter for the past four years and he always has a smile, is friendly, and takes my order quickly without rudeness, arrogance, or sass. Now for the TASTE...... These folks know how to season! They use SALT! On top of other seasonings, the meats are always full of flavor. I've tested multiple times, eating just the meat by itself and I am always pleased with the flavors they use and the fact that they season generously and tastefully their food. Too many taco stands here are bland and over priced for it as well.
If this is your first time and you're deciding to go, then just do it.
My recommendations: Horchata Jamaica Classic azada tacos with extra onions and cilantro Supreme Azada tacos Supreme Pastor Tacos Classic Pastor Tacos with EXTRA Lime Burrito Azada with extra pico de Gallo, onions and cilantro
Always ask for extra limes Always order ONE more taco than the amount you think you want because you will be wanting to drive back and order again (and you can eat it for lunch if you you don't eat it)
I also want to thank this taco stand and the people that work here, they do a wonderful job and I am always greeted like a friend. Thank you...
Read moreWould not recommend this taco food truck. Second time coming here because first time experience was super good, however the second time was horrible to be honest.
7/3/20 I ordered ahead of time thinking it might be busy.
When I got my order the carne asada tacos barely had any onion and cilantro-different than the first time I ate here.
I got an horchata and it was disgusting. It tasted super powdery and slimy. I had to return it for a Jarrito instead.
Last and final-I ordered vegetarian supreme taco and vegetarian sope with rice and beans. Come to find out no rice was added. When I went to get this corrected the lady chef came out and was super confused and the owner was questioning what had happened. I explained that no rice was added even though that it is how I ordered it. The owner explained that he put meat on the side because normally that is how they prepare sopes with beans and veggies and that he didn't charge me for the meat. I understand that, but I didn't order it like that. I wanted rice added. I don't mind pay extra either. He just walked away after I said that.....seriously? No big deal right? Instead of them remaking the vegetarian taco and sope, guess what they did? Dumped rice on top of the food instead! So unprofessional and rude. I was the only customer there. How hard would it have been to remake something? They claim they make "tacos de oro" yet there is no "oro" in tacos or customer service unfortunately. They seem to lack consistency.
I really thought I found my favorite food truck based on my initial experience. Too bad this last experience just...
Read moreI actually tried this place out for Taco Tuesday due to the great reviews and close proximity to my residence. I went yesterday and ordered 3 Taco Supremes and a Lengua Burrito. The food was very good so I decided to go back today. I called ahead so that I could grab my food and enjoy my lunch with time to spare.
I ordered 5 taco supremes over the phone and the gentleman said it would be 5-10 minutes. I go over and see people in line ordering. I wait patiently but the ordering turned into casual conversation. I waited almost 20 minutes until I couldn’t wait any longer. What’s the point of ordering ahead if you STILL have to wait to get your food. I waited almost 20 MINUTES and then decided to call Tacos de Oro on the phone to cut right to the chase. The lady at the counter answered and then hung up on me and went right back to casual conversation and placing orders.
I then tried to wave her down and she ignored me. So I finally made it impossible for her to not notice. I told her I had already ordered my food and that I just want to pay and go. She replied “I know” and tried to still tell me I had to wait for the other people to place their order. I then told her that my food is already there and to please just give me my food. She found my food RIGHT NEXT TO HER. Without saying anything she rang me up. There was no apology for the wait, no sorry for the mixup. I like their food but the way this situation was handled makes me not want to go back to their food truck. If it’s so difficult to handle an order called in ahead of time then take that option...
