We decided to give this place a try since we love Indian food and it's a local place. We went on a Saturday night around 6:30ish and we were literally the only patrons in the restaurant and thought hmmm... Maybe they were cutting back on adjusting the ac to a good level while we were there because it was relatively hot before we even began eating. We tried two Mango Lassis, and it was not good. It tasted like plain yogurt mixed with concentrated Mango juice out of a can. It was warm and did not have a fresh, fruit-drink appeal to it. We ordered the Butter Chicken which was good. The Garlic Naan was overcooked and burnt. We tried the Chicken Korma thinking it would have a nice curry taste with a kick to it to it since our waitress recommended it, but it was honestly the least flavorful of the three dishes we ordered that night with not much of a curry taste. The ambience inside was really plain and boring but we expected that already thinking the food and service would definitely compensate for this since I see so many Indian locals eating there whenever we walk by to another restaurant in the plaza. Unfortunately, the service was also bad. After we received our check from the waitress, they left all the dirty dishes on our table until we paid the bill and walked out. It wasn't even like they were busy in there since there were still no other customers in the restaurant when we were walking out around 8pm.The best part is that we actually stayed an additional 30 minutes to digest and just try to enjoy the rest of our date night together. I thought to myself how can you be in the restaurant industry and not be trained to take the customers plates off the table so they can enjoy the rest of their evening together after they receive the bill. Yes, they are a little bit cheaper than other Indian restaurants, but the serving size of the dishes are actually smaller than where we usually go. We learned the hard way you get what you pay for and that is why will continue to go to Jax Spice in the future where we can get excellent service, great ambience, generous portions, and great...
Read moreIndian restaurants can be hit or miss for Indian people because we know the food and what it should taste like. While I love the idea of fusion Indian food, most of the time, I want the real deal spicy comfort food, not a fancy version. This place is the real deal. Their appetizers are delicious and addictive! We had the gobi manchurian (fried crispy saucy cauliflower) and a fried crispy version of baby corn that blew my mind. If you’re a meat eater, go for the dry garlic chicken bites or the chilly chicken or chicken manchurian! I haven’t tried their biriyani yet because I’m trying to get through their naan offerings first. These are made to order and so delicious and fluffy that you’re going to forget your carb counter. We had green chilli, garlic, green chilli-cheese, cheese, and a very special Kashmiri version. My favorite was the the garlic naan but the Kashmiri naan was new to me with its slightly sweet flavor. I’d definitely get that again for the table. They have the usual Indian curries, but try the interesting ones like tender lamb (Roghan josh) and goat kheema (ground goat meat). All delicious. The service is attentive and friendly where they actually come out to ask you how you like the experience. If you’ve been to the Indian restaurants here, you know that’s not the norm. Waiting for their bar to open so I can try out their take on the presidential drinks from the fun mural that they have up on the wall. Oh and a hot tip….ask for the tandoori grilled fish. I barely had time to take a picture before my companions dug in. Phew!! That was a lengthy post! But this is a great addition to the SJC area. A little bit of a drive for me, but I don’t mind that...
Read moreThe first thing about this place is the most amazing aroma when you enter. It delights the nose and the whole dinner tonight was one led by the aromas that highlighted the robust flavors that we had this evening.
The atmosphere is bright and comforting, if plain. The service is very friendly and quick as well.
The menu selection is excellent for those who are vegetarian, but they have a nice selection of lamb, chicken, and goat as well. The food is served family style of a sorts and the portions are very ample. My partner and I easily shared our food and have lots of leftovers.
First was the Samosa Chat which was an excellent starter full of bright spices curbed with a hint of fresh fruit chutney and the crisp samosas and seasoned chickpeas.
Next we had a Paneer Biryanis, there Naan that had the onions stuffed in it (Which was addicting), and had the Paneer Mirkahin (Probably spelling that wrong.) The spice levels were excellent and the aroma coming off the food made me hunger for more. Really you eat with the nose first here.
The place was very friendly and the food excellent and very authentic. They make their own paneer here as well.
Please check this place out when you need a good night out at very reasonable prices too for some excellent Indian cuisine!
Update: This place is still amazing, even after quite a few more visits. Food and service are both wonderful. Make sure to order a Mango Lassi as well, it's not listed on the menu but they are a delicious beverage that is a cooling counterpoint to the spices of the cuisine.
They have specials on the weekend including several different versions of Puhlow, which I'm pretty sure I'm...
