Storytime:
So me and a group of three family members decide to go out to eat after hitting the beach, and Taylor's is one of the few we hit. Some restaurants weren't open or the wait time was too long. Despite being packed, it was about a 15 minute wait, which isn't bad considering that it was Sunday, Thunder Beach was going on, and it was brunch time.
We get to our table our server---Lisa is her name, this will be important later---drinks are ordered swiftly and we sit for a bit before she returns and we order our food. Something about us is that chronic asthma is not uncommon, and three out of the four of us had it. It can be triggered by basic allergens, activity, and scents.
Well, it chose to be scents, like I said it was Sunday. I at first smelled hand sanitizer but everyone else smelled and overwhelming lavender. We later learned a woman had brought in a small clear jar, we think homemade hand sanitizer just with the combination of scents. We asked Lisa if we could just get it to go due to two of the four of us being on the brink of an asthma attack. Instead she had gotten incredibly concerned, noted that it wasn't a smell that she had ever smelled in the restaurant, and offered to open the meeting room for us. I assume she went to explain this to the manager on the clock, and the two went outside.
We moved our drinks and other items to the room where it smelled clean and a bit like queso (it was in a crockpot), and everyone came back and sat down. The strange thing here is that it isn't all that often that people accommodate the asthma side of things believe it or not, and not only did she accommodate it; she continued to be our server the rest of the time there. She went out of her way during rush hours, screwing up her section routine in the process, to ensure that we could still eat in the restaurant.
She was an extraordinary server, friendly, respectful, and a generally fun person. It's people like her that make eating out fun, and make me miss the days I'd go to work with my mom when she worked in restaurants. She kept light conversation and as to her question about chicken and waffles: The best way to have them is with a fried chicken breaded and seasoned Caribbean jerk style, a fluffy buttered Belgian waffle with a warm honey to top it, I don't like the intense sugar of the syrups.
The food itself was divine, well cooked and seasoned perfectly (if you can't do spice I wouldn't recommend the potatoes, I enjoyed them but the pepper had a bite to it.) My grandparents wound up staying back to thank the manager, apparently the server they had asked if they could talk to the manager had gone white as a sheet. Luckily it wasn't a bad thing this time around.
All this to say I would 100% recommend this again, and if you want a good time with a server that can definitely break the ice for you...
Read moreI decided to try Taylor's since I’ve never been in the last 10+ years of living here.
First impression was that the dining room was very outdated and mysterious empty. I don’t normally eat at restaurants that are dead like that, because it typically means something is wrong with the place. Or that the food isn’t good. I was really craving pancakes so I decided to stay.
One look at the menu and I thought it was a little overpriced for breakfast food. I got the classic breakfast for $13.99. It included a pancake, 2 eggs, bacon, and toast. It was almost $5 to add potatoes so I chose not to add them.
I got my food…both my egg yolks were cooked all the way through after I ordered them over medium. I asked for crispy bacon and received very chewy, cold, and super greasy bacon. It tasted as if they had pre made a bunch of bacon for their shift and they just threw the old bacon on the grill. Instead of cooking me a fresh order. (I’ve worked at restaurants that pre cook their bacon at the beginning of the shift). It was just terrible.
I asked the server if she could take my plate and just charge me for the pancake. That’s when the owner (or manager, not sure who he was) brought me my bill and he never once asked me if everything was ok or if there was anything he could do…and that’s standard at a restaurant. I could not believe that it was almost $12 for only ONE pancake.
That same man was also vacuuming the dining room while people were still eating and the sound of the vacuum was very loud and annoying to hear while trying to relax and dine in at a restaurant.
I will never be going back & I hope to give my honest review so others won’t make the same...
Read moreLooking for breakfast on Easter Sunday and glad we found somewhere. We only had to wait about 20 min.
Atmosphere was clean and not noisy. We got a booth. They are a bit narrow but comfy.
Ordered coffee, green chicken chili hash, blueberry pancakes and deluxe sandwich.
The server was nice enough but pretty much only saw him when he brought the coffee and took our order or and dropped off the syrup. He never came back to see if we needed anything else or if everything was ok. He actually didn’t even deliver our food. Oh my bad he brought us our bill and said “pay at the register” 🙄 Noted: the table behind us their server a extremely attentive and gracious and was back and forth to their table to ensure they were taken care of. (I wish I would have gotten his name)
The food: the sandwich was good it would have been great if the person on tomato slicing didn’t serve the butt ends of the tomato and they were thick (pet peeve see picture) also the sandwich could use an additional egg. The blueberry pancake was gummy meaning you needed a knife to cut them and they were a bit chewy. The green chicken chili hash was flavorful just needed a bit more green sauce.
I did love the fact that you get the entire carafe of coffee at your table.
All and all it was decent. Nothing to rave...
