Happened to stop by here on the first day (Jan 19) they opened after being closed for a period of time-i imagine it was closed for the holidays. They are only open Wednesday thru Saturday as well. We had the turkey sandwich, chopped brisket sandwich and rib sandwich. The rib sandwich was $8+ while the turkey was about $5 and I can't remember the cost of the brisket. The rib sandwich was actually three ribs on a bun with smaller bones. It was a little difficult to tear the meat off the bones and make a sandwich out of it. The turkey was cut very thin and reminded me of sliced meat you can get at the local grocery store although it did taste better. The brisket had a spice to it. The ribs and brisket were dry for my taste and the BBQ sauce was extremely runny so it didn't help at least for me. Flavor was pretty good but the dryness was a little too much to overcome. They do have a covered sitting area and they only take cash or checks. It really is about a 3.5 on a scale of 5. Would I eat here again? Probably not. Would I go out of my way to eat here? Definitely not.

As someone from Louisiana this is the saddest excuse for southern food I've EVER had. To start things off, they had only been open an hour yet, were out of two of the three sides we wanted. We opted for green beans but what we got were tasteless and sad snow peas?!?! I got a plate of pulled chicken with Mac and collard greens. The meat in the greens tasted old and lacked flavor, basically just green mush. The Mac and cheese was the biggest disappointment just noodles with hard cheese in spots, no amount of pepper was able to save it. My partner got the corn bread sandwich which sounded great but was executed poorly, the only good thing about it was that the brisket was cooked well but the overall dish was dry and flavorless... Surprise. Also the baked beans are canned bushes beans with some brisket thrown on top. Overall a waste of money (51$) for two people 🫩 Save your money and taste buds. 0/10 would not recommend Sides were overpriced (4$) , see photos for size reference.

As I trek through the area on trips I always ask the local community what BBQ places they recommend stopping at and giving a try. One of my favorite cuisines. My inquiry in the Foley/Gulf Shores, AL area usually resulted in being told. "Down South BBQ, catch them while they're open! They're amazing". I decided to give them a shot on my way down to the beach. Boy, did they live up to the hype recommendations. I got a Smoked Turkey sandwich (moist, tender, bursting with flavor) with Alabama White Sauce (rich, creamy, flavorful, spiced just right), and a side of horseradish potato salad that was absolutely out of this world. If you're in the area and looking for great bbq in the area and can "catch them while they're open!" I 100% recommend stopping here. A+++ from this dude.

You can smell their butts from a mile away!

I have to say that Down South Barbeque deserves 10/5 ⭐'s for the care, quality and love they put into their BBQ! This is among the best BBQ I've ever had from Texas to Alabama!

If you are deciding and still unsure, the photos reveal the outter char and smoked quality of the BBQ. When you arrive, you'll see the working barrel smoker in an enclosure and stacks of wood.

But, the experience of actually having fall off the bone ribs, smoked brisket and the "OMG died and went to heaven" collard greens that Tat makes is something everyone should experience! Their coleslaw, BBQ beans, and Mac and cheese leave no room for anything but praise.

For dining on location, they have a screened in dining area on the side with picnic style tables and paper towels.

The staff are also kind, enthusiastic, and proud of their hard work, as they should be. Down South Barbecue and these amazing people will be a requirement for our future trips to Foley.

Come get some and take your Butts to...

Reason I only give two stars it’s not the the food the food is good. The reasons are they are only open when they feel like never seen a business close so much in a years time, the other reason is come folks this is 2020 who really carries cash in their pockets or who even writes checks anymore get with the flow start excepting debt/credit cards. If the food is good the place is clean and the staff is friendly people will pay the extra charge for card fees which if I find crazy Becca I know for a fact there is card programs that don’t charge. I have lived here right behind this place for 3 years and only have eaten there maybe 2 or 3 times because I don’t carry cash and my bank is in Mobile and i don’t have checks. I have meet and talked to numerous of people who has ate there and say they would eat there more if they would stay open more and take cards. I guess the people who runs this don’t like money. I understand being closed maybe once or twice a week but sometimes this place is closed for up to a...
