Gus's Restaurant — Restaurant in Folsom

I'm hoping this review doesn't just encourage you to try Gus's one day, but to pick a time to go right now while it's on your mind and keep this promise to yourself. I really don't want anyone to miss out on what has to be the closest diner serving food the taste like it did back in the day when real was affordable, real was right, real real was how we did everything, real was better than good, and real was healthy. This was my first visit and I ordered the bacon feta cheese burger. It brought me back to the 70's & 80's as my eyes rolled back in their sockets.(Hahahahaha) Oh my goodness, this burger put me in my happy place. The service was goof, very polite. The atmosphere was cleaner and far, FAR above average. The prices might catch you off guard because apparently everything is a la carte. However, you are there, you've already got your mind and your tastebuds fixed on a specific flavor, and I am telling you, YOU COULDN'T POSSIBLY BE TELLING THE TRUTH IF YOU SAID YOU ATE HERE BUT DIDN'T CARE FOR IT. LIER, then you didn't eat her. Get to Gus's and I challenge you right now to wants to share it with everyone....

First and foremost, the food was quite good. Standard diner food, and well executed.

That being said, we waited over 2 hours for our food. Everyone in the restaurant did. Since the food is ordered and paid for at the counter we didn't have the option to simply pay for our drinks and go elsewhere without having to process a refund which brings me to the next problem: The server. The majority of the time we were there we never saw her. No explanation that the food was going to take a long time, no checking up, nothing. Tables were left unbussed, other patrons actually managed to get up to the window to grab their own food before she appeared to grab it.

When things were brought, she would turn around and walk off so fast we would have to yell after her to get her attention if we needed anything, such as getting dressing for the salads she bought out. The food was good, but it was not good enough to go back and sit...

I've been there 3 times in the past 2 weeks. The waitresses are very very friendly and helpful. Good homecooked food at a decent price. However it is CASH or CHECK ONLY. But there is an atm inside. My group got a variety of food and almost all of it was delicious. We also got the all you can eat catfish special and it was some of the best catfish I've ever had. The shrimp plate, chicken tender plate, roast beef poboy plate and the ribeye plates were delicious. Steak was a little salty but good. These came with fries(I added gravy), a basic lettuce side salad (the salad that comes with the steak has everything on it and includes a side of squash) or coleslaw and green beans that were amazing. The meatloaf was pretty good but the rice that comes with it was very bland and not fully cooked. But other than that it was delicious! We are definitely going back! Love the waitresses and the...
