I want so much to have a good sushi restaurant in this area, and unfortunately I'm still wanting.

While the service was good and friendly, and the prices are low, the rest of the experience and food here is sub-par. Firstly there is no atmosphere in this restaurant. I understand they just opened and they obviously are not done decorating, but there is nothing inside to set a mood, tone or coziness at all. It feels more like a sterile deli counter than a sushi place. But most importantly the food is bland and tasteless. The miso soup is clearly a cheap instant variety with no flavor and the seaweed is closer to plastic than organic. The gyoza (mispelled as goza on the menu) is fine, though would be better if served steam-fried than fully fried. As for the sushi, the rice was improperly cooked (too much water and tasted too starchy and thick) and the fish (tuna, salmon and eel) were nearly flavorless. Plus neon pink is not the normal color of tuna. They clearly are not using good or fresh cuts of fish (I lived in Japan and know what good sushi is). Unless there are dramatic improvements I don't see any reason to return.

Also, a word of advice to Sushi 99, DO NOT leave the wasabi in cheap plastic dishes on the tables, it dries it out and reduces its flavor...

Went for dinner on Saturday night, there was a large party in there, but not too busy! Our server was Morgan, but they seem to all work together and service was fantastic! We started with the shrimp tempura…it was 6 PCs of just shrimp tempura and was delicious! We each had a cocktail while we waited. Appetizer came out quick, sushi took a little bit longer only because of the large party that ordered just ahead of us! Cute atmosphere, friendly staff, casual comfortable vibe! Bathrooms were clean! We ordered 5 sushi rolls and took home leftovers which were just as delicious the next day!!! Server told us the crab rangoons are awesome so we will be trying those next time and she made a few recommendations on future rolls to try! She also talked us into the crispy bagel roll which did not have a description on the menu and let me tell you…PHENOMENAL!!! See pics for how amazing the rolls truly are! They have Boba Bubble Tea too! Prices were reasonable and portions were good! We cannot...

I've had my fair share of sushi in a couple of different countries. I've had many in America. I've had them in big Cities and small rural towns, but this place's sushi was intoxicating. I asked them their choice and not to tell me what it was till I got there. I couldn't believe that a small town sushi bar could taste like that. I mean absolutely devastated my taste buds and I thought "well nothings gunna taste that good again." Until I tried the steak hibachi. It blew my mind. I'm still baffled that I've been in Fort Atkinson for 9 months and haven't eaten here once. It saddens me to know this place exists and people will go through their whole lives without knowing this place exists in their very own backyard. The staff were super kind and down to earth. I will endorse what ever they recommend from now on.

Normal people won't read down this low, so to the staff thanks for the recommendation and the experience. I will be there at least once every week from now on....

ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL!!! I am not sure why I haven’t gotten around to making a review yet but I have been coming since they opened. This is truly my boyfriend and my favorite (underline favorite three times) place for sushi. The environment is very calm, not a fancy dress up type of place, but the same level and execution of sushi. I dream of their sushi and it’s always our go-to. I also always recommend it to everyone I know going through the area. The price for the taste is actually unbelievable and feels too good to be true. The staff is also some of the happiest and kindest people you will meet. You are always greeted with a welcoming hello and they always make a personal connection through serving you. You can tell they all love their job and I’m so glad. Service is typically quick- around 2pm seems to be our sweet spot for a late lunch and it’s out in just a few minutes. TRY THEIR LAS VEGAS ROLL… we are obsessed!

Stopped in for dinner on a Friday night. Pleasantly surprised. It lacked some of the typical Japanese ambience eg dimly lit, bamboo covered booths, tassels and red everywhere with servers in kimono's, but it was well lit and nice to see what we were eating. The soup and sushi was great and very nicely presented. The background music was 70's and 80's pop hits, no commercials and I personally thoroughly enjoyed it. Wait staff were pleasant and prompt with drinks refills. Essentially, this is a restaurant that sells Japanese food, but doesn't pretend to be "Japan in downtown Fort Atkinson" and I thought it worked well. The fact that they were almost full also tells me it works for others. As we drove home, my wife was in full agreement. We'll be back!
