Fareway Meat and Grocery — Restaurant in Fort Dodge

Newer store with a large parking lot and easy entry and exit to streets. Fareway is known for its meat department and this location lives up to expectations with a large variety of meat products, great staff, and excellent prices. In practically every other grocery department though, Fareway's selection, while ample, is not on the same par as Hy-Vee or even Wal-Mart. It seems they have executed a significant upgrade to the produce department. More variety and impeccably arranged on my last visit. Overalls, Fareway is a bit of a throwback, no-frills type store, but you are likely to find 90% or more of what you need here and save money and time in the process. I would have given this store a 5 star rating, however, it seems that the meat department has gone the lazy way of "meat cutting", much like Hy Vee, where they think hacking up a chicken is a bandsaw act. I used to be a butcher for Fareway in Indianola, IA. We Never used a bandsaw on chicken! The Butchers were actually trained to cut the individual parts using a knife and cutting between the joints. This left no bone slivers in the meat, for the customer to have wind up poking into their guns or cheek. I am hoping this is only a short and temporary "trial" by this Store's meat department, and they will see the error of using untrained meat cutters to hack up meat using a bandsaw, especially on chickens. The guys in the Deli was very helpful and nice. I came in to order two of the Meat Bundles packages numbers 3 &4. When I told them the number 4 was for my fur-babies 🐶, they was shocked ☺️I then explained that my fur-babies has been on a raw meat, fresh veggies and fresh fruits for years. One guys said they must be spoiled. And I replied and told yes guys my fur-babies Mocha Queenie and Max eat nothing but the best. They were so kind and generous packing up everything.
