I do not think I've ever had to leave a negative review for a restaurant before but this one warrants it. We stopped in here after my sons basketball game on a Monday night. As a pregnancy craving for mexican couldn't be ignored. Immediately noticed our server taking orders in an oversized fuffy jacket, yawning loudly as she was taking orders, and picking at her face. Then as the chips and salsa were brought to the table we asked the young man that brought them if we could get some queso and he told "you'll need to ask your server for that" Wow, way to go above and beyond man. You might think maybe he was busy with other things, nope there were only 3 tables of people in there. After brining our chips he went back to a corner table where him and the other staff on duty that night sat, in full view and listening distance to the patrons. We were able to hear them complaining loudly about how they didn't like their jobs. It was literally like walking into a business ran by immature children. I spent many years in the service industry, you do not wear a coat when greeting customers or touch your face, or BREATH on them! Much less sit down where they can see you and proceed to complain about your job while they're enjoying their meal. We wanted to order a double fajita of steak and shrimp. There were a ton of choices- honestly too many choices. Gordan Ramsey would quickly slim down that menu. But apparently that one combo wasn't on the menu so we asked for it and the server told us we would need to order steak fajitas and then add however many shrimp we want... do you know how many shrimp are in a normal fajita? Because I do not! Whatever we just got a steak and chicken one. When it came out i believe there were MAYBE 3 pieces of tiny chicken slivers and some steak slivers that were thinner than Alfredo noodle. The majority of the food on the plate was vegetables. The water with lemon was chemically tap water that tasted horrible. We were pretty disappointed. Maybe we'll be lucky next time we're in Ft. Madison and the other/better mexican restaurant will be open. There's only one way to go after...
Read moreI’m not sure what the prior poor reviews here are about. My friend and I on a 259 mile scavenger hunt and we’re getting hungry for good Mexican food. We were lucky to be referred to this place by a local gal at the gas station. She was right about how good it is! I had Chile Relleno lunch combo. I’ve lived in CA over 50 years and worked at one of the longest surviving Mexican Restaurants in town for 2 years. This food was every bit as good and in some ways was more flavorful. I even asked to sub the red sauce for salsa verde on top and the waitress said “no problem!” She was helpful with recommendations and prompt with service, even though she had 7 other tables already. The rice and beans were also tasty with spices and the salsa for the chips was the best I’ve had in a long time; Served in a small carafe with individual small bowls. What a good idea.,,double dip the giant chips all you want! Great food, great service and an excellent price. If I lived near Fort Madison, I’d be tempted to eat there at least...
Read moreSo we have been coming to this place over the years. They have a very large selection of Mexican cuisine. It has changed management several times, although the food has kept the high standards no matter who is running it. With only three restaurants that serve Fort Madison, you have to be doing something right. The Food: hot and fresh ingredients and they know how to keep you coming back for more. While we have been here for years, I still try new items, with my favorites. The Chile Releano is my personal favorites, anything with their Rojas (red) sauce is great with their refried beans and rice. They have tortas (a bunch with a crispy exterior and soft center. It's excellent. The service is where they sometimes don't have enough of. They do their best though. The Atmosphere: traditional hand-painted murals and vibrant colors give you that...
