The square grouper is a hip all outside beachfront bar/restaurant. It’s 21 and older so it’s likely they will card you when you enter. And that also means it’s a mellow place to spend an evening. The live band stage is awesome and the band that was playing while we were there was really good. They have a great selection of different types of beers and a huge cocktail menu. The food itself is only okay really. Pictured is the signature burger. It was certainly large and full of substance but it was pretty much just an average burger that can be bought anywhere. The conch fritters I was very excited about because the host recommended them as his favorite appetizer and I’ve had some really great conch fritters elsewhere. But these were only just average as well. There were a few bites that were extremely chewy and tough. And even a couple times when I bit into what felt like maybe a shell or something hard. I was disappointed by that. The fish and chips were good. The fish was more like fish nuggets than a filet but they were tasty. Nothing to write home about but enjoyable. Nothing can touch the beautiful atmosphere at square grouper. That is the best thing going for this place. The palm trees. The ocean. The smell of saltwater in the air. The coastal breezes. Oh my. You won’t find a more beautiful place to dine anywhere. If you do it’s gonna cost an arm and a leg. Square grouper is affordable. I would return in the future. I wouldn’t hesitate if you’re reading this review and wondering if you should go. I highly doubt it...
Read moreEasily the rudest hospitality workers I've encountered in more than five decades on the planet. After dinner and drinks with my wife and friends, I went to the bar to close out my tab. (There is no wait staff; you have to run your own food and drinks.) The first time I was skippped, I said "Excuse me" in a conversational tone. They ignored me and proceeded to serve a customer who had arrived after me. The second time I was skipped, I assumed I hadn't been heard and made an effort to politely project my voice. This time, the female bartender swiveled her head, fixed me with a skunkeye and held up an emphatic index finger in the universal signal for "wait!" Then she proceeded to serve the customer who had arrived after me. The THIRD time I was skipped, it appeared deliberate, and I raised my voice while still not yelling: "Excuse me! I'm waiting here." At that, the male bartender spun, pointed his finger at my face and screamed "And you can keep waiting!" Gob-smacked, I squeaked "let me close my tab and leave." And I did so, never to return. I don't know why I merited this hostile treatment. Perhaps I'm simply too old to merit the prompt attention of their terminally cool bar staff. In any case, there is no shortage of waterfront restaurants with mediocre food. I can get that ambiance minus the abuse in a half-dozen places within five minutes drive of this...
Read moreFamily and I visited Florida on vacation. This place has a beautiful view and great food, the fries and ranch are top tier as well as the mahi sandwich. The fish and chips were awesome. We came back a few days later and I got the Chubby Cuban Sandwich, it was okay but was not very chubby, pretty small actually. Other than that it was good, fries and ranch were just as good as the previous day. My gf ordered us drinks and opened a tab, we went up and I ordered our food and I said I did not want a tab opened and I handed them my card and was confused because I did not get a receipt. When we were about to leave, my gf pays for the drinks tab and I was right next to her. We end up walking to the parking lot and the security called my name saying I did not pay and my tabs open. I was so confused because I did not know I opened a tab, it felt like I was stealing even tho I thought I paid, never had that happen before. Not sure but they must of opened up a tab with my card and not charged the card. Still confused why they didnt ask me to pay when I was right next to my gf as she paid her tab for the drinks, and they must not of heard me say I wanted to pay for my food not open a tab. Left me feeling weird and confused. I ordered food, said I wanted to pay, handed my card over, did not get a reciept and then told I never paid when I was leaving with my...
