Ava's Place operates in the same suite in a small strip shopping center under Fianna Hills in Ft. Smith that was occupied by the first radio station I worked for in Ft. Smith in 1984. I stopped in to have a beer just to see what it looked like now. It was quite strange to see a couple of tables set up in the exact address where I did an afternoon show for six years. The conference room was the band stand and the prize closet is now storage. I enjoyed sitting and thinking that I once got on that same roof to have my picture taken next to the B-98 sign when it was brand new. As far as the bar goes, it's one of those comfortable little places where "everybody knows your name". The beer is cold and priced right, the drinks are mixed well (as long as you don't order anything wild or to far off the norm). There's a pool table and some big screens for game day. The layout is spacious enough for numerous small groups to socialize and close enough that the server is never out of reach. The music was loud enough to hear but not overbearing such that it drowned out the ability to talk to someone and not yell.
