Driving up, the place doesn't look like much. It was also late, only an hour before they closed. Upon entering, it's a small, casual location. We were asked to sit anywhere we wanted and a server would meet we. We chose a small, tidy table against the back wall and were met by Ashley. Ashley was incredibly kind and friendly. She provided great information about the menu, especially her favorite items. I ordered the lasagna and water. My wife ordered a pasta with ricotta cheese, but I cannot remember which pasta it was. We sat while it was prepared, the open dining room setup didn't provide a lot of privacy between guests, and it was quite loud even with only two other groups in the restaurant with us. The pastas each came in a dish it was clearly made in, and both were piping hot. It also came with some garlic bread, but I did not eat any.. We let it cool a bit and continued pleasant conversation with Ashley. Once it had cooled a bit, we both dug in. Cheesy, saucy, meaty lasagna. It was delicious. It was also a fair portion, so there was no being left needing more. My wife's pasta was good as well, the ricotta was a great, creamy texture in the pasta.
Overall, I'd recommend Giovanni's. It is great Italian-American food that didn't leave disappointed. It's definitely heavy on sauce and cheese, but that was to its credit, not its detriment. While the venue was nothing great, the service and food definitely make this a must try if you love Italian-American food. And if you get Ashley, take the time to let her talk about the menu; she brings passion to the selection that will make you excited for whatever you are interested...
Read moreI’ll be honest—when I first walked into this restaurant a year ago, I was skeptical. Born and raised in Chicago, where Italian food is practically a religion, I have pretty high standards when it comes to pasta, sauce, and anything remotely related to Nonna’s Sunday table. So when I stumbled upon this spot during my travels, I didn’t expect much. I figured it’d be a decent meal at best, but nothing to write home about.
Well… here I am, finally writing the review I promised I would—because this place deserves every bit of recognition.
From the moment I walked in, the vibe was different. Warm, welcoming, unpretentious. The owner came out to greet us like we were long-lost family. The staff? Attentive without being overbearing, genuinely friendly, and clearly passionate about the food they were serving.
Now let’s talk about that food. The stuffed mushrooms—let me just say—were hands down some of the best I’ve ever had. Perfectly seasoned, cheesy, with just the right amount of crisp on top, and the sauce that came with the mushrooms, I still think about it. The rest of the meal followed suit - pasta was cooked perfectly al dente the marinara sauce, perfectly balanced.
It’s been a year, and I still recommend this place to anyone who’ll listen. I’ve eaten at a lot of Italian spots in Chicago, and this little gem still holds a top spot in my memory. I genuinely hope to travel back one day—if only to order those stuffed mushrooms again and thank the owner in person for such an unforgettable meal.
If you’re on the fence, go. Just go. You won’t regret it.

Read moreAlphabet date before the LSU game! "G" brought us to Giovanni's, which happened to be very close to us. This place was amazing! It's BYOB and offers all of the Italian staples (pastas, pizza, subs) plus some great specials. We ordered calimari, stuffed mushrooms, chicken Alfredo pizza, veal parmigiana and cannelloni. Orders come with their homemade bread (trust me, you want the bread!).
Calimari 4.5/5 - the Calimari rings were HUGE! Compared to other restaurants, these were bigger pieces. Although the flavor and cook was perfect, my favorite part of ordering Calimari are the tentacles... And sadly, there were none. But a perfect appetizer nonetheless
Stuffed Mushrooms 5/5 - certified banger! The sauce is the best part. Save some for the bread 😉
Chicken Alfredo pizza 5/5 - perfect thin crust, Alfredo sauce base, and strong hints of garlic pair well with the diced chicken. We took this home after a couple of slices to enjoy later
Veal parmigiana 5/5 - if you want a big hearty dish, get this. The veal portion was ENORMOUS! Served with spaghetti, marinara and tons of cheese. I BARELY finished this...
Cannelloni 5/5 - ANOTHER very well prepared dish. Each shell was stuffed with riccota, mozzarella and spinach. Topped with bolognese sauce and more cheese 🤤 can't go wrong!
Overall, this spot exceeded expectations and we will definitely be back (with some BYOB next time). All prices were fair considering the huge portions. Check...
