We’ve been going to this spot for almost 30 years-back when it was still Nick’s Pizzeria. We have even rented the entire restaurant out for a memorial. Since 2018 we have been coming during a specific time of year annually (besides other random times we’ve gone throughout the year)to celebrate the passing of a family member. We always get wonderful service, food is delicious and reasonably priced for how much food we get-until today. We came with a party of 10 (as we usually do for our annual get together) and when we got there every seat had a salad bowl/plate, fork wrapped in a napkin along with a menu. We ordered 2 family meals (that included a pizza, salad, bread and lasagna/spaghetti ) along with several appetizers and an order of chicken Alfredo while most of the table ordered waters and a few sodas. When I ordered the food I asked that we get several sides of ranch, napkins Parmesan/chili flakes. Normally apps would come out first then salad and the rest. Instead, the waitress only brought out 2 salads with no serving utensils-nothing else. That sat there for a while until the rest of the party showed up. Once they were seated she brought one of the pizzas. We also asked for everything I had already asked for previously, as well as utensils to get our food with. She came back with tongs for the salad, but nothing to serve the pizza with and made several trips to bring all the drinks. Eventually she came out with 1 Parmesan and 1 chilli flake shaker and 2 or 3 ranches…for 10 people. The next thing to come out were the apps then the main dishes came out one after the other, but AGAIN with no utensils to serve with! We had to eat all that food with a salad bowl plate thing (usually they would have app plates, salad plates, then big entree plates for the rest of the meal) we had to ask for extra napkins and she only refilled a single drink once after having to ask her. To avoid having to ask her for things, we were cleaning utensils with napkins because we didn’t even have enough once she brought them and so we didn’t mix food up. We were there for about an hour-a hour and a half and in that entire time there was only one other couple Eating in the restaurant then a small group of kids that looked like they were eating snow cones. She was not busy and yet when we asked her for things she looked annoyed and overwhelmed that we were asking for so much, but we only did that because we didn’t have anything and we didn’t want her to have to go back and forth so much. She completely disappeared at the end of the meal. I had to go to the counter to get my check, ask for boxes/bags and get a to go drink. The waitress herself seemed really sweet in the beginning but she ended up making our experience terrible. The food was okay, not as good as usual and took FOREVER to come out-not sure if it was because of the cooks or lack of urgency from the waitress. Prices are still reasonable in my opinion as it’s a lot of food and tastes descent. I have never been so disappointed in service. Dunno if she didn’t care because the tip is automatically applied so she was getting a tip anyways, but whatever the reason, her service was completely unacceptable. This just happened this afternoon so I am still debating on whether I will continue to make this our annual tradition or if after 30 years of coming here, maybe it’s time to stop and find...
Read moreThis restaurant has recently changed ownership and undergone a renovation. I stopped by today for a meatball sandwich but unfortunately was disappointed. The buffet consisted of two types of pasta soaked in your choice of red or pink sauce, vegetables, salad, and some questionable pizza that looked pretty dry as it was left to bake underneath the heat lamps. We passed on the buffet and ordered off the lunch menu instead. I ordered a meatball sandwich that turned out looking more like a light banh mi sandwich with skinny baguette-style bread. Inside the sandwich appeared to be a single meatball cut into thin slices along with a thin coating of meat sauce - no mushrooms, no onions, and the cheese was barely sprinkled within. The friendly waitress kindly offered extra sauce "for dipping" without being asked. However, this made me wonder if I was the only customer who recently found this $10 sandwich lacking... If you're hungry, I would keep driving. There are far better options in the area, and the Costa Mesa Nick's Pizza d'Oro isn't...
Read moreI took my family out to dinner tonight and decided to go to Pizza D’z. We typically go to the restaurant in Huntington Beach, however, because of our time constraints, the Fountain Valley location was our only option. This decision ended up being one of our best dinner experiences we’ve had in years. Our waitress was Mo Mo and from the start greeted us with a big smile and got to work on our drink orders immediately. What was so impressive was her high energy, incredible humor and of course her customer service that few people seem to have these days. The food is always wonderful at Pizza D’z but because of a late start in the evening getting to dinner, we ended up having one of our best experiences dining at a restaurant that my family has had in many years. The friendly atmosphere and great food is why we come to Pizza D’z, however, the extreme fun and entertaining customer service from Mo Mo will have us coming back to this location every time! Thank you Mo Mo for such a great dinner experience and having us laughing the entire...
