It is unbelievably disgusting and inhumane that the only option for wheelchair rentals in the park is contracted to this company, which appears to close randomly with no warning or communication with park rangers. It's unconscionable that such a basic service that should be consistently available to make the park more accessible to those with injuries or disabilities is allowed to be gatekept at the whim of whichever three or four people are working the shop that day. (This is to say nothing of the fact that wheelchair rentals are $12, which also feels rather unethical, but I would have gladly taken the option to pay even more than that for a rental if it meant an injured or handicapped friend/family member could have a normal day in the park).

My friend sprained her ankle a day before we were set to go to the Grand Canyon, and she was able to get looked at in the ER early enough that we thought it would still be worth going since it seemed like there was a decent amount of accessibility options in the park. After confirming with a ranger that wheelchair rentals were available, we went over to the shop to ask, and we were turned down by the barista working the register, who, to his credit, tried to check with someone in the back to see if it would be possible. One other person also seemed purely delighted to reiterate to us that wheelchair rentals were unavailable, which left an extremely bad taste in my mouth.

I fully understand that on days with inclement weather, bike rentals might induce liability, but a wheelchair to help injured and disabled folks to navigate parking lots and paved trails seems like such a basic necessity for a company to have such impunity to gatekeep.

It's also commercially idiotic - don't you want some amount of rental revenue on days that bikes aren't being rented out? The practice is senseless and again, inhumane, on...

What an amazing experience! We wanted to get the kids active after the long at-home experience so we decided to take a road trip. My sister felt the same way. They had also spent 2 months at home. It’s time to re-engage, get our young kids a chance to see their cousins but be smart about it. We were looking for activities that we could do that we could also include grand-pa and keep socially distant from other groups. This bicycle tour was perfect. The staff at bright angel bicycle tour were amazing. Every single team member that helped us were impressive. So friendly, they all had their masks on and smiles on under them. They were so patient and professional with our group. Traveling with kids can be challenging. Between my sister and I, we are a 10 person group. We have 5 kids (ages 3-7), my sister and her husband, me and my husband and my dad. So these guides were so patient and amazing helping us show the Grand Canyon to our kids for the first time. The kids grandfather (my dad) got a kick out of seeing the wonder and amazement in his grand children in this experience. Once we had our bikes and onto the paved trail we were always from others. Everyone could take masks off and breath the fresh Grand Canyon air while biking through the high desert forest. The guides were able to share such great and fun information on plants, animals and geology in the area. They also kept our water bottles filled and found the good shade to rest in on this hot summer day. Thank you bright angel bicycle! We will be back again for another ride!
