It makes me sad to write this. I've been a huge fan of this restaurant and have been coming here for about 5 years now. I've always had amazing experiences and had previously left a five-star review. However, today was so horrible I felt compelled to leave a new review and to probably never return.
I got the oceano burrito. It's my favorite thing on the menu and I get it every single time I come in. I'm still not entirely sure what I was served today. The burrito which has increased in price by 25% since I was just there a few months ago is supposed to have fish, scallops and shrimp. My burrito was filled solely with this weird brown meat that looked like shredded chicken but tasted like expired overly salted canned tuna. I ate one bite and definitely paid for it with an hours long stomach ache. I called the waiter over and was polelitely like hey something's off here and this is not what I ordered. They preceded to argue with me that the clearly wrong and most likely expired burrito was the right burrito and claimed that if they remade it, it would be the same thing. Finally, I just sent it back and decided to not order anything else. My friend who is also a long time customer decided to eat her meal but ultimately regretted it. She ended up with undercooked, mushy chimichangas that had barely any meat in them. She made it less than 1/4 the way through before just giving up and dismissing it as disgusting. She also echoed my opinion that the meat definitely tasted off. They also served us stale tortilla chips and didn't bring us even one drink refill even though they charge a whopping $5 for a soft drink.
I don't know if this was a weird fluke. I don't know if it's new recipes or new kitchen staff. I don't know if it's a case of a rude waiter not wanting to fix mistakes. All I know is I won't be returning anytime soon for a rancid mystery...
Read morewe have become "regulars" over the years. Service is always fast and friendly, food is remarkably consistent and the drinks are great. We are foodies; and have had great Mexican food in various parts of Mexico and all over California. This is not gourmet dining, but it is always tasty and fresh. We love the Tacos al Pastor, (I prefer the pork, my wife likes the beef), the Steak Picado is very savory and even the simple spinach enchiladas are very satisfying. The prices are very reasonable, the portions more then enough. Complimentary chips and salsa, and the salsa is Very good. Margaritas...I'm a purist. I love to sip a good anejo or reposado tequila and make a good margarita (very simple). I've spent many pleasant hours investigating the complexities of the Acaplulcos margarita. There are a LOT of ingredients in one. But somehow, it allows the flavor of the tequila to shine through, in some ways enhancing it. I've had a lot of people try taste tests, for example between a Herradura and a Don Julio margarita at Acapulcos. Everyone can taste the difference. Dunno how they do it, but those drinks alone would keep us coming back. Add up the great drinks, fair prices and very very fast, truly friendly service and you have a winner. Highly recommended. Just stay out of the Franklin one so you don't take...
Read moreFranklin is a town with limited restaurant choices downtown. Acapulco’s is...serviceable...if you’re content with drinks and chips/salsa. For that, it’s fine. Pitchers of margaritas are about $28 which is pretty reasonable considered there’s about 6 glasses in one. There’s ample choices on flavors too. The service is typically fast and nice enough.
However, I’ve been consistently disappointed by the food. The last two times I’ve gone I’ve had to send the queso back because it’s cold. One the latest visit, as I ordered it, I asked specifically to make sure it came out hot. Unsurprisingly, it came back cold. So we sent it back. They brought it out and the waitress asserted that they heated it up more now, but they can’t make it any hotter. On the second try, it was room temperature instead of cold. If I had to guess, they must keep putting it in the microwave to reheat which heats up the serving dish, but not actually the cheese. Lesson learned now though—just don’t bother ordering queso unless you’re ok with...
