The first real NY style pizza 🍕

Update 9/9: Recently dined on the patio for a family member's birthday, and the experience was much more pleasant. Delicious manicotti and canolis. Hoping my first experience was just a one-off, because their food this time was great! Original Review: I have been coming to this place since I was in high school - it used to be great. Recently tried it again after moving back for the first time in maybe eight years. It was ok. We ordered through DoorDash. The Greek salad was good and a generous portion with yummy house dressing. The white pizza was ok. I would probably order it again. Next time I’ll try their regular cheese, as I remember their pizzas with red sauce being good. The garlic cheese bread though was truly awful. Hard, stale bread with really rubbery congealed cheese on top, it went straight into the trash after we tried a bite and realized how unpleasant it is. We’ll be back I’m sure to support a local business and like I said I enjoyed my salad, but I suggest changing your garlic bread recipe to a nice, soft bread and a higher quality cheese, or just take it off the menu. I’m not saying don’t go here, because honestly much love to our family owned restaurants, I want to see them do well, but maybe ask the staff what dishes they recommend before you order so you know you’ll get something delicious.

We have heard many good things about Sals and decided to try it. All of the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. We did not have to wait on any refills and the food came out fairly quickly. The food however was not worth the price. $16 for a lasagna that was nothing but a small dish of sauce and cheese and maybe one lasagna noodle inside was very disappointing. My spouse ordered a calzone with just cheese and pepperoni. His portion was very large but the calzone consisted of mostly cheese and bread, there was very little pepperoni inside as you can see all of the cheese in a pile came from one cut slice of the calzone. The mozzarella sticks we ordered as the appetizer were the best part of the meal. We ate as much as we could as we had not eaten anything all day and were very hungry and didn’t want to have to send anything back. I hope to have a better experience in the future should we decide to try them again

First, I am absolutely not a complainer & this is the first bad review I’ve ever written.

It’s my second night in Franklin after moving from SC & I had a terrible customer experience. Not a pleasant welcome to the city. 🤦‍♀️

At 9pm, after a long day, my mom and I were famished because of not eating in almost 12 hours. We were so glad to find a pizza place 5 mins away so we could just grab food & eat asap.

So, we arrived & asked if they served gluten-free pizza. Both of us have major allergies. They explained that they do & that they have cauliflower crust, so we said that’s what we wanted. The cashier proceed to take our order. We ordered the large pizza since we were so hungry. And we tipped 20% even though it was only a takeout.

After receiving the pizza, we were about to leave when I decided to confirm that it was cauliflower crust. (I’ve gotten into a habit of doing that at restaurants. You can never be too careful with a gluten allergy.)

Glad I asked because it was not cauliflower crust…. So the cashier walks into the back for a moment. (Obviously talking to her manager.) Then she comes out & asks what we’d like for the cauliflower crust pizza. Then she says that we would receive a 20% discount on that order— as if she was doing us a favor. 🧐

I’m sorry, but that’s simply not right. It’s the restaurant’s responsibility to make right any misunderstandings when it comes to a customer’s order. That’s simply standard etiquette in the food industry.

The cashier proceeded to argue, saying they didn’t carry cauliflower in a large size. So… why didn’t she tell us when we ordered it? And THEN she started claiming that she didn’t hear our request for cauliflower. (Although that’s the first thing we discussed before we proceeded with our order.) And then she argued there was nothing they could do with that extra pizza they made. Umm, that’s not our problem…? So we’re supposed to pay $32.43 PLUS a new order for THEIR misunderstanding??

Of course we left without giving them any more of our business than we already did. That was AFTER we explained that I have diabetes & my blood sugar was going down & I needed food ASAP.

So sad this happened. They would’ve received so much business from me in the future....

We ordered two large cheese pizzas. One with light sauce and one with regular sauce, but both with extra cheese. When we got back home to enjoy them while watching the game, we noticed that one pizza had no sauce and neither had extra cheese. The charge for extra cheese alone is almost $3 per pizza. We called Sal’s and told them that one pizza didn’t have any sauce and neither had extra cheese. We were put on hold and the person who made the pizza came to the phone and argued with us with a terrible attitude. We pulled the thin layer of cheese back and every piece had nothing. He continued to argue and fight. He said well that’s how we make them. He finally said, “What do you want me to do, make you another pizza?” My spouse was also on the call and said, “Why? I’m afraid after all this they would just spit on it.” Funny thing is, he didn’t even dispute that. The bad thing is we almost paid $50 for two glorified thin layered cheese sticks and didn’t even get any kind of customer satisfaction when we just try to call and tell them how we felt. I can handle no extra cheese and no sauce on one pizza, but what I cannot and will not tolerate is how we were talked to and how we were treated when we merely called to tell them that they didn’t get our order right after paying $50 for bread and cheese. We told them we would never come back as this wasn’t the first time that we talked to so disrespectful as customers. You think one time maybe it was a fluke but now twice? I don’t think so. Wanted to share this with everyone so you know what to expect when you order...

I see here that others also experienced the rudeness and "too bad for you" smug uncaring attitudes from two regular servers in particular. An hour of waiting for our meal (with no one else in the restaurant when we entered!!) and getting low blood sugar while watching take-out and later customers' orders take priority, and the waiter/management only got angry with me for being annoyed..he said "obviously you're a very hungry man!"...I had to ask 3 times where is my food,...then he said "well you're not gettin' any!" and walked away...so we walked out. Then my wife was in with w a friend at lunch and the girl waitress taking the order insisted that the item my wife wanted was not available at lunch, only to annoyingly refuse to help her pinpoint what she wanted and then blamed my wife for not requesting it as an "appetizer' - "you wouldn't have this trouble if you had requested the 'appetizer', she said, though my wife had initially told her it was on the dinner menu..the waitress could have helped my wife to figure it out ahead of time, but insisted impatiently that it wasn't available..so my wife rejected the platter which was NOT what she had asked for, only for the waitress to basically give my wife grief and blamed my wife for not asking for the right thing. Unbelievable attitudes there. Both times the item we were really looking forward to we ended up not getting. Just pathetic treatment. The waitress handed my wife a $10 bill and said "is this okay for a refund?" - it didn't even cover the cost of...
