Dinner tonight at a charming, cozy, little, family restaurant in the heart of downtown Franklinton…it’s called the Swamp Monster. Cajun and Creole food as well as burgers are on the menu, and they are known for their famous Swamp Monster Burger that rates #1 in the state!
The tastiest and juiciest Roast Beef Po-Boy around is also there which by far exceeded its reputation!!! We also sampled the the Crawfish Bisque, the Crab Bisque, the Shrimp and Corn Bisque and the Gumbo all of which were absolutely delicious!
Their food is all homemade in house from family recipes, and that includes their bread pudding, carrot cake and several different cheesecakes. (All of which I heard were heavenly, but we were too full to try any of them…we will most certainly be returning!)
Rustic decor, live music by Michael McCall, delectable eats and the best staff ever; they made us feel totally at home and just like we were part of the family! Antonio, the owner, is nice and charming, and he is there welcoming everyone, brimming with pride about his young gem in the making. You MUST go and soon, it definitely will not...
Read moreWe tried this place tonight and we are we have zero regrets. We were a party of 6 (5 females ages 6-50 something and my husband) we ordered 2 apps, 1 kids meal, 5 entrees and 2 desserts. Everything was delicious. The restaurant decor is not to be missed. It was so much fun and the attention to detail made it one of the coolest looking places I have been in a while. We highly recommend getting the “filthy swamp thang” But again, it was all so good. Catfish was fried crisp, shrimp had a perfect crunch outside without being dry, it was all fresh tasting. Seasoning was spot on. Well seasoned without being overwhelming or just spicy. A lot of places just make things overly spicy and call it seasoning. Not here. The owner was in the house and very engaging with fun stories. It was obvious that he loved what he did. Our server did a great job handling our busy table. It was a fun night and we will definitely be returning to try something else. On the way home we decided to go back for a poboy soon. I didn’t ask but I just know that man uses the good French bread...
Read moreThe overall theme is a bit eclectic, but the food and service were excellent! While our family has been visiting the North Shore and N.O. area, we have tried multiple places for hot roast beef po-boys. The Swamp Monster Restaurant is definitely the best we've had overall! Their roast beef was awesome, and so moist, it doesn't need any extra gravy. It also pairs well with the classic French bread that the po-boys are served on. You can also get the roast beef on a number of other stylized options to including their well seasoned Jolie fries (which was a great option for my daughter, that is Celiac). I couldn't pass up trying their bread pudding and was not disappointed. The addition of fruit (pineapple and peaches) was lighty sweet and refreshing, which gave it a hint of cobbler while still having the thick and creamy consistency of warm pudding. The staff was also extremely friendly, chatted with us, and went out of their way to make us feel at home. We look forward...
