I have ordered from Mackies twice. I have been to well over a hundred different BBQ establishments in my time growing up in the South/Southwest. The first time I ordered their 1/2 Ribs/1/2 Brisket everything was perfect, tender ribs that fell off the bone and brisket that had a glean to it showing it was still moist but tender.

But I am not giving Mackies 5 stars for my first order. With my second order the ribs, while still good, were not as good as the first time. My brisket, while good, was not as good as the first time.

I believe as a consumer I have a right to give honest feedback to the restaurants for which I have paid for their product. Most of the times as you can imagine the person on the phone is 'appreciative' but provides a reason as to why things were not as good and rarely offers any real hope that another order would give a different experience.

Not so with Mackies! I contacted the store to let them know that the quality of the second order was not on the same level as the first. And WOW! They really cared! They were concerned, took notes, and were willing to do whatever it took to make my experience as good as the first.

In the restaurant industry, this attitude is a rarity! This attitude is why I am giving 5 stars because with that type of attitude they will get it right a lot more often than they get it wrong.

Rest assured, I will definitely be giving Mackies a third try and likely a fourth. If for any reason you had a singular non-good experience, I STRONGLY encourage you to give them another try because I will be surprised if they don't deliver on your next visit...

I am a self-proclaimed “Queen of Carryout” so recently I Googled “soul food Frederick MD” and the first result was “Mackie’s Southern Barbeque Restaurant.” I placed an order and…Muy Bien!

As soon as I walked in the door, the aromatic smell was mesmerizing! Plus, the lady who greeted me was sincerely friendly.

The Green Beans & Bacon made my taste buds scream! I’m not a huge fan of green beans, but there’s something in them that separates “Mackie’s” green beans from all others that I have eaten.

The Macaroni & Cheese! Kraft claims to be the cheesiest, but trust me when I tell you that “Mackie’s” is THE cheesiest plus it’s made from scratch!

The Baked Beans are “BOMB Beans”! Again, there’s something in them that separates “Mackie’s” beans from all others that I have eaten.

The Smokehouse Wings…OMGoodness! The wings are undoubtedly “smokin’ good”. I’ve eaten wings from many, many, many restaurants but I haven’t had wings this tasty and satisfying in awhile. Mackie’s wings are seasoned and cooked just right (not dried out).

The Pulled Pork is delicious and most importantly tender! In this case, the phrase “pulled pork” is definitely a figure of speech because the meat is tender (i.e. no pulling apart necessary).

Both the Potato Salad and Cole Slaw have a distinctive delicious taste too! I’d would be hard to decide on which one to choose.

Last but certainly not least, “Mackie’s sauce is…Umm Umm Umm!

In closing, I recommend that you place an order and taste for yourself…Bon...

I traveled up to Frederick today and stopped here for a lunch date with family, and let me tell you... what a place! The pulled pork sandwich was divine. Smooth, soft, tender, and the sauce (in my case, a mild sauce I topped it with using one of the bottles of sauce on the table) was superb. The potato salad was excellent, with a little bit of crunch from celery and a nice blend of spices that made it creamy without being too savory or too sweet. The texas beans are not like your grocery store pork and beans, but with a touch of sweetness and a little spice that makes them not spicy hot, but leaves your tastebuds with the taste of the spice without the burn. The sweet tea was also perfect. Not too over the top and FRESH. The family that owns the establishment were an absolute delight to work with. From their son who took our order to the owners themselves coming out and chatting with us, I will make that long drive back just to see them again. They make you smile, take pride in their craft, and it shows....
