Hilda’s FBH Texas – A Must-Eat Spot
Hilda’s Mexican restaurant came highly recommended by the friendly staff at the Hangar Hotel. The parking lot is massive, which is no surprise—everything is bigger in Texas.
One thing I didn’t know going in: if you order at the counter, your meal is automatically to-go. I figured that out after watching a few others, quickly exposing myself as an outsider, lol. Despite that, the staff was incredibly friendly, and the food came out lightning-fast.
What I Ordered: • Chips and salsa • 4 carne asada street tacos The chips were warm and tasted homemade—definitely a nice touch. The salsa was mild but packed with great flavor, blending what I think is cilantro and a bit of garlic into a smooth, rich paste. It wasn’t chunky, just silky and delicious. Easily top-notch. The street tacos arrived beautifully plated on a long dish. After the first bite, I could tell they didn’t skimp on flavor. They don’t overload the tacos with cilantro, which I appreciate, and the seasoning keeps delivering after each bite.
Final Verdict:
This place is a must-eat. I’ll definitely be back. The staff keeps things running smoothly, all while maintaining a great sense of humor with each other. That kind of atmosphere makes a difference—it’s something we don’t always mention in reviews, but it enhances the whole experience.
Looking forward to my...
Read more2024 update: If you want breakfast tacos, be sure to get there early! At 10:15am on Saturday, I walked in & out empty-handed because everything good was already gone. Prior review: We stopped to pickup breakfast tacos, passing thru town. Chose this place bc of reviews. Simple order: 4 chorizo and egg tacos. Service: friendly and LIGHTNING fast! Why so fast? Saw the order taker walk over to a counter by another register, bend over and pull out from behind it: 4 tacos! Voilà! They were apparently made ahead of time!
Fast is nice, but flour tortillas (I think they were homemade tortillas?) get hard over time. The ends of the tacos had a crunch to them - not cool. Chorizo and egg tacos? We called them egg tacos with a hint of chorizo. Salsa absolutely required for any flavor other than egg. Very disappointing.
Should we try this place again, we will order a variation of something on the menu so they make it fresh vs pulling from a pre-made lot. Maybe then it'll be better? But, chorizo and egg: if they don't add more chorizo, I wouldn't bother.
Atmosphere: open area dining, fairly loud (kinda busy/good amt of people dining). Though only a short time inside, we noticed and discussed acoustic dampening... which isn't a typical conversation of ours, just saying, quite "telling."
I hope the restaurant responds well to constructive feedback and improves: It appeared to be a...
Read moreI've been to Hilda's a few times and it's always been a good experience. I was excited to go because of the outdoor patio area, though it would be great because of the nice weather. The patio is awesome, they did a great job on the addition. The atmosphere looks great and was expecting to spend some time and money on my girlfriend having dinner and a few drinks. That was cut short by the "wet sock" of a waiter we got. ZERO personality, no smile, acted like he hates his job and put a huge damper on our evening. He never smiled or looked us in the eye, definitely didn't make us feel welcome or comfortable. This was 10-31-25 at 4pm, the place wasn't even busy and he made us so uncomfortable that we ate and left to find somewhere to enjoy the evening. He was wearing a South Park sweater and had dark curly hair. I don't think he's ever been trained as a waiter because he left dirty dishes at all the tables he waited on, left paper trash and napkins on the floor... Too bad, Hilda's spent all that money on the renovation and let their staff cost them...
