After arranging our reservation 9 days in advance, we arrived early at the host desk and knew immediately that we were in for a displeasing experience based on the host’s demeanor and language. This continued as he made a judgmental remark upon seating us based on the dietary restrictions placed in our group’s reservation, restrictions the manager had advised in a phone call the week prior could be accommodated thoroughly.
Servers took an unusually long time to assist our table and did not approach the table to first offer beverages (other than wine) or offer to assist with any menu questions while we all perused the menu. After an uncomfortably long time, our server approached the table asking what we wanted to order which we all found awkward given that she had barely spoken to us.
After ordering a hot tea, then having to remind the waitress after several minutes again that I need said hot tea, a bland coffee mug of hot water with an H-E-B teabag was brought to me. No offer of honey/lemon/sweetner/etc. was offered, nor did our server ever offer to refill the tea throughout the evening. A wine server was eventually asked because I got up and walked to her to ask for more.
The ordering process for dietary restrictions went the opposite as promised from the phone call the week prior, nor were the dietary restrictions met.
Our meals took an unusually long time to come to the table, and the pasta portions were less than filling. All of our party ordering pasta were ready for more food upon returning home.
When asked to pay, we simply wanted review our bill before submitting payment which was several hurdles with the staff. Initially, they were accepting of us receiving our bill with the emailed receipt following payment. When asked to review the bill prior to payment, we were met with frustration and attitude.
We further noticed that our group was never offered dessert whereas other parties arriving after us were offered and served dessert. Perhaps we were saved from further frustration.
An intuitive Grape Creek wine server inquired about our experience, of which we started to share our initial greeting outside, and said server confirmed without much information that we were seated at our table by the restaurant owner. Once our party understood that owner is leading the staff in the manner in which he presents himself, how could we expect any different from his staff?
There’s no doubt that our entire party has no intention of returning, and we collectively felt that the restaurant is bringing down the experience and reputation of...
Read moreA Tale of Two Experiences – Heath Sparkling Wines & Stouts Restaurant
Let me start by saying that Heath Sparkling Wines delivered an exceptional experience. From the moment we arrived, without a reservation, they welcomed us warmly and had us tasting within 15 minutes. The staff was gracious, attentive, and professional, making us feel like valued members.
I’ve read comments about their firm policies, no kids, no pets, arrive on time, and I truly appreciate these. They create a refined, focused environment that feels more like a private wine club than a typical tasting room. It’s not the place to let loose like it’s your 21st birthday, and that’s exactly what makes it special. The experience is elevated, intentional, and one to be respected.
Now, onto Stouts Restaurant and this is where the contrast becomes hard to ignore.
If you're going to maintain high standards in your tasting room, it would only make sense to uphold those same standards in your restaurant. We arrived 15 minutes early for our reservation and were seated promptly, which we appreciated. The meatballs were excellent easily a highlight. However, the rest of the experience didn’t match that initial promise.
We waited nearly an hour for our pizza, and by the time it was ready, we had it boxed up to take back to our room. Throughout this time, there was little to no engagement from the staff. The manager stood within ten feet of us but never once acknowledged our table, even as we sat for over 20 minutes with nothing but water and wine. It wasn’t just us other tables around us were having the same experience, so it was clear the kitchen was overwhelmed or understaffed.
It’s disappointing because the potential is there. The ambiance, the menu, and the connection to Heath Sparkling Wines could make Stouts an ideal extension of the tasting experience. But without improved service and more attentive management, the gap between the two becomes glaring.
Had we only visited the restaurant, this review would be far less favorable. Thankfully, the excellence at Heath helped balance out the overall impression. I sincerely hope the restaurant can rise to the level set by the...
Read moreTitle: Unpleasant Experience Due to Misleading Age Policy and Rude Bouncer
Review:
I recently visited this establishment with my family, including my newborn baby, after traveling for four hours. Unfortunately, our experience was marred by a lack of clarity regarding the age policy, compounded by a rude bouncer, manager or host “the person that encountered us at the members registration desk”.
Upon arrival at the registration, we were met by a bouncer who informed us that only individuals aged 21 and above were allowed to enter. While I understand the need for age restrictions in certain areas, the issue here was the lack of clear communication.
The establishment's age policy is stated as "21+" online, but it does not specify that this applies to the establishment in general. This ambiguity led to our unfortunate experience, as we had no way of knowing that bringing our newborn would be an issue.
Furthermore, the bouncer's attitude was quite rude in handling the situation. He could have been more empathetic and understanding, considering our long journey and the lack of clarity regarding the age policy.
I suggest that the establishment update their online information to explicitly state that it is adults-only and also provide better training to their staff on how to handle such situations with tact and professionalism. This would prevent similar misunderstandings in the future and help visitors make informed decisions before traveling long distances.
In conclusion, while I understand the need for age restrictions in certain establishments, clear communication and courteous staff are essential to avoid inconveniences like the one my family and I...
