Wilbur's Of Maine Chocolate Confections — Restaurant in Freeport

I have a 5 star review because of two things:

The owner uses 55% dark chocolate that are in the cases. The owner went out of his way to make me a special order for Christmas.

I am a lover of chocolate so much so that anything other than dark chocolate isn't really chocolate. Don't get me started on white 'chocolate'.

I developed an allergy to dark chocolate in my teens and it hasn't gotten better. I can now tolerate 55% without getting a serious reaction... which leads me to this majestic company. When I asked staff what percentage they use for dark chocolate they, without giving me a snotty look or deer in the head light stare, where actually knowledgeable about the chocolate! I teared up because for over 20 years I couldn't find local chocolate I could eat. Now that I have found this treasure, I am delighted to give my business to them.

Another wonderful thing, I order one of everything in the case and the staff does not judge me. I feel welcome and it means a lot to me. Keep up...

I sadly do not have photos of this amazing place to show the level of dedication and artistry that has been devoted to their confections. These little morsels are delights from heaven that burst with flavor, and each is unique and superbly tasty. Really enjoyed their chocolate covered Maine blueberries, these little guys are melt in your mouth and delish! The store itself is an amazing space that boasts far more than just chocolate and candy with a small antique section, plenty of books on various topics related to the great state of Maine as well as neat arts and crafts. It's well worth a stop in to taste the daily sample and then take home a big box of goodies to enjoy for one and all. Go taste great...

Had such a fun time bringing my nephew here for a tour and getting a really great run down of the process of chocolate making and the history of the company. The tour guide was incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgeable which made the tour worth every minute. They have a ton of great options to choose from including fudge, truffles, jelly beans and more, but I would sell my mother for a bag of the caramel wrapped marshmallows which are SO GOOD.
