Read moreProbably the worst restaurant I've been to in the last 5 years that I've been in the Bay Area (from a customer service point of view). We reached the restaurant around 8:20 pm and didn't get a seat until 9 pm (which is fine, it was a Friday night), but once we got a table we first ordered the Kado Borani and were told it is not available. So we then ordered the Potato Bolani and 3 other items. The 3 items came out fine, but after a while when we realised that the Potato Bolani hadn't come out we asked the server about the order to which he goes into the kitchen and then comes out and tells us they were out of the Bolani too (2 items unavailable by this point) and says he can give us free soda to compensate (seriously?). We then tell him we'd like to do a second order of something we had already ordered (since we clearly didn't have enough food on the table) and then he says, "Oh I'm sorry but the kitchen has closed" without even letting us know in advance that they were closing the kitchen and if we wanted to order something as a 'last order'. Then he tells us "Oh we will compensate you with a free dessert". We were clearly not happy but we decided to just get done and leave. At 9:50 pm though, they tell us we are closing the restaurant (hinting that we should leave, even though closing time is 10 PM) and while we were gathering our stuff and getting the 4 year old ready to leave they shut off the lights above our table (this is at 9:55 PM, so again, not 10 PM like their closing time mentions). Now, I've been at restaurants where they start loading the chairs at around closing time, but nobody tells us to "leave" before their official closing time and they DEFINITELY do not shut off the lights above our table.
So, to summarise: One dish we ordered was not available. Second dish we ordered we were told is not available AFTER the kitchen closes. Not allowed to order anything else in place of the unavailable item because the kitchen closed and they did not mention it to us. They tell us to leave point blank. They shut off the lights above our table 5 minutes before their closing time while we are still there and getting ready to leave.
HIGHLY HIGHLY unprofessional customer service! The restaurant owner should look into this and know that his restaurant isn't the only one in the Bay Area that serves good Afghan food. If you don't respect your customers, they'll find other places to go to, after all, the Bay Area has no dearth of good restaurants of all...
Read moreI was here to celebrate my friend's birthday. We reached here around 6:30 pm which was a good decision as later it just got too crowded.
I was coming here for the first time, so parking was a bit of a struggle as front street parking was not available and this restaurant has 5-6 car parking spaces behind the restaurant so that was full. Hence had to park behind the banquet hall nearby. It's interesting when you walk from there to the restaurant there's a tiny shop where a guy is sitting on a tandoor baking the afghani bread and there's no seating area. You will have to walk a little further to actually get into the restaurant. The entrance is something that will take you to Afghanistan. I loved the set up and interiors because it's all decorated with authentic art, the doors, everything gave me a great vibe. We first ordered the appetizer Kado Borani which is roasted squash topped with garlic yogurt, dry mint and served with afghan bread, and Yogurt drink with cucumber and mint. I really enjoyed it and the perfect start that makes you hungry for more food. We ordered main course Bodinjon Borani which is roasted eggplant topped with garlic yogurt, dry mint and served with afghan bread, and Teka Kabob which is Beef skewers of tender tri-tip marinated in our special sauce, charbroiled to perfection. This was sufficient for the three of us. The service was okay, we had to remind the server that we ordered but someone who came after us already got their order served. The server brought our order and we had asked for brown rice and somehow he started arguing that we said white rice hence he brought it. We didn't want to continue with him and we said nevermind. Later he brought a separate plate with brown rice. We started feeling that this guy must not like us. We were not served water until the time when we were paying our bill we asked for it. The food is great, and there are other people who are courteous and helpful so I will give another chance and visit here...
