I was so thrilled when El Rodeo opened with the amazing cook from my favorite Mexican restaurant La Casita closed in 2020. La Casita had been open in Fremont for as long as I can remember. The original cook talked to his cousin (Gabriel Owner of Carrillo Park Cafe-very good breakfast!) about opening another restaurant with the same delicious authentic Mexican food! I’m telling you, it didn’t disappoint! Nobody, and I mean, nobody can make a better chile relleno! I order them at almost every Mexican restaurant that I go to, and nobody can compare to theirs! I’m a vegetarian, so I always order the relleno and cheese enchiladas dinners with their delicious rice and beans. They give large portions, so I always get a second meal out of it. The chips are always fresh and the salsa has the perfect amount of spice. I don’t order cocktails very often, but they have really good margaritas. Everyone that I have ever eaten at La Casita or El Rodeo have always raved about the food, and always very satisfied with their choices like the Carna Asada, Chile Verde and Fajitas. The other favorite is their chicken and rice soup! They did raise their prices, but if you love a special restaurant, you’ll pay it. I don’t live in Fremont anymore, but go there to visit family and friends. It’s a “must go to” when I’m there. The only problem is I have gone on a Monday when they’re closed or earlier in the day. They don’t open until 3 pm and close at 9 pm...
Read moreMy husband found this spot that was rumored to be like our beloved La Casita. From the chips and salsa, the tortilla soup to all the fabulous truly authentic main dishes - it felt like coming home! I literally cried tears of joy from the first taste of the soup! Core memories sweeping back after every bite! The staff was superb as well. We enjoyed hand crafted cocktails at the bar while waiting for our table. Chatted with the super friendly bar tenders who did confirm the chef from La Casita is here! Then again confirmed when the manager stopped by our table to ask how things were. I mentioned I basically grew up at La Casita- my mom and her bestie used to go and take all of us kids which then turned into adults going and taking our friends and spouses! Ladies and Gentlemen- the rumors are confirmed! We are THRILLED to have found this spot and will be supporting this family owned restaurant from here on out. The prices are higher (and cup of soup no longer comes with the meal) BUT that’s expected and honestly, the food/service is well worth it! 👌 for any long time La Casita fans I say to you -...
Read moreMy husband and I just finished having dinner at El Rodeo. This was our first time and we had high hopes for a great dinner based on the reviews and the restaurant was busy.
My biggest gripe was the flavor of the food. I ordered a grilled chicken burrito. Super simple. What can go wrong? It was the blandest chicken burrito I’ve ever had. The beans and the rice in the burrito had no flavor. None. There was no cilantro either. And they put the guacamole and the sour cream on the side.
I asked for some chile to spice up my burrito and they brought me a red enchilada sauce that tasted like it came out of a can. I was SO disappointed. No, I can not call this authentic Mexican food. Authentic Mexican food has depth in flavor. It doesn’t have to be spicy but it does have to have sabor.
Now I said the restaurant was busy and I believe they are successful because they cater to a demographic that prefers a blander diet. So if that’s you then this restaurant is for you. If you prefer Mexican food with a little more sabor then go somewhere else.
That being said, they have great service and the...
