Steaking is a new night market styled Taiwanese hot plate steakhouse in my area so when I got the chance I went and checked it out.
It was on a Sunday lunch and the wait was minimal. As we sat down, we noticed that the decor was modern and minimalistic. They had a black theme going inside and it was clean. Here's what we ordered:
10oz Ribeye - 4 / 5 I had it cooked medium rare. The steak looks big but it's actually fairly thin in the cut. The noodle underneath was pasta like in combination with one broccoli, two baby corn, and a sunny sided egg. I chose a combination of black pepper and mushroom sauce on the side it tasted, good. Alternatively, you can have it drenched on top of your steak. Is the taste beyond imagination? Nah, but is this the taste I expected? Yes, you bet! In addition, you get refillable bread and soup. If you haven't had this type of steak before, give it a try, it puts eating steaks with a different spin for sure.
Japanese Miso (mini pot) - 4 / 5 The broth seemed to be just miso alone. If you like miso like me, it'll taste good but if you are looking for more flavoring in addition to miso this may not be a good one to try. The stuff they've placed in the mini pot are fairly typical. Your beef balls, napa, tofu skin, sliced pork, imitation crab, and etc. are all part of the pot. Your carb of choice is between a cup of rice or vermicelli. I liked this mini hot pot, my wife thought it was a little heavy on the miso side so 4 / 5.
The soup and garlic bread - 5 / 5 Well, they're free with our meal. It's pretty decent in my opinion. Nothing to rave about but if you like a thicker styled broth mixed in with milk, this would be your jam. The bread is just garlic pasted toast, simple but it gets the job done.
Service - 4 / 5 Most waitresses were Mandarin speaking. I happen to speak it so I had no issues joking around with them as they were fairly friendly. However, I can see some potential issues if you aren't of Mandarin speaking origin so that's something to keep in mind. You though have the option to just order through the QR code ordering if it befits your circumstance.
Would I come back? Sure. But like other Taiwanese styled steakhouses, only if I feel like having this type of steak. This is definitely not an everyday steak place for everyone that's for sure so that's something...
Read moreI finally got to try Steaking, and it was great! I ordered the duck breast Sizzling Plate. It came with unlimited Taiwanese Creamy Corn Soup, which you serve yourself, and unlimited garlic bread too. The flavors were so great, they felt authentic.
The environment was also perfect. The Taiwanese accents all around me made me feel like I was really in Taiwan for the meal. I loved the vibe. The servers were absolutely sweet and nice. They made sure I was taken care of, even when the place was a full house and a lot of people were waiting outside.
I think this place is great for a friends gathering, family dinner, or business lunch. I also feel the price is a good deal because I was super full after I finished my order. I wish I had a bigger stomach so I could try more other things. I will...
Read moreTaiwanese-western style set meals of sizzling plates or hot pot. Pricy, but it's a lot of food! Self serve sauce bar with drinks and soup, and really buttery and garlicky garlic bread on request. The hot pot has a generous amount of meat and vegetables, not so much mushrooms and tofu.
The sizzling plates steak was a little bland for me despite the sauces, and I wouldn't get it again at that price. Hot pot was fair for the price. I'd come back for the garlic bread by itself though.
Very similar to canto cafe sizzling plates, or Taiwanese individual hot pots like boiling point, but as far as I know there are no other places in the area with this specific...
