I love the food and this place is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants. However I've never been here and the service was that bad...The service was horrible..I ordered the love potion #9 and it took almost 40 minutes to get my food. My mom ordered a beef teriyaki combo plate and was done eating before I even got my sushi roll. Her combination came with rice which was forgotten. It also came with ice cream which was also forgotten..10 minutes into her eating she finally got her rice after asking the waitress twice..Once the manager was told then all of a sudden my sushi roll was ready. The chef was putting the finishing touches on it for the last 30 minutes apparently 🙄...I also ordered some unagi which also took about 30 minutes. When confronted with these issues the response we got was well your waitress is just behind. Yet she was able to serve everyone around us on time. The other excuse used was the orders go to different places. Sushi to the sushi bar and food to the kitchen. Okay cool, well as a former restaurant owner I know how things work. And at the very least it's the waiter/waitress job to let their customers know it may be a delay. Or even that hey I'm behind, sorry. I would have even gone for the truth which is she forgot to put my order in or forgot to go get it. But either way she came by once in about 20 minutes, so I couldn't get a refill on anything. I asked for an extra plate for my son and she didn't bring any of those things. Then to add insult to injury, when we asked for the check she said okay then had someone else bring it...While also still serving other's and taking the people seated right behind us their ice cream 😳😐😐😕☹...I hope this was a 1 time thing. I understand things like this happen. My main issue was the lack of accountability from the server and the managing staff...Very dissapointed...

If you're in Fresno, CA, and looking for an unforgettable dining experience, look no further than Sakura Chaya. This gem of a restaurant has great potential, and it truly shines with its exquisite Teppanyaki cooking. One dish that stands out is their **Filet Mignon with Calamari**. Perfectly cooked to your liking, the filet mignon is tender and flavorful, while the calamari adds a delightful contrast with its slightly chewy texture. The combination is a symphony of tastes and textures that will leave your taste buds dancing. Don’t forget their TERRIFIC TEPPAN TRIO (TEPPAN-YAKI LUNCH SPECIAL) Trio includes beef, chicken, & shrimp, soup, mixed green salad, grilled vegetables and fried or steamed rice for $19.99 if your on a tight budget. But it's not just the food that makes Sakura Chaya special. The Teppanyaki cooking here is always the best. Watching the skilled chefs work their magic on the grill is an experience in itself. They create a lively, interactive atmosphere that turns a meal into a memorable event. From the quality of the ingredients to the artistry of the chefs, Sakura Chaya offers a dining experience that is second to none. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just indulging in a night out, this restaurant promises a meal you won't soon forget.

So, I LOVE this place! We come here every year for my birthday as well as our first date night of the year, on Jan 1st. The food is always great and service is always just as good! My issue is the portions now that COVID is among us. The portions are significantly smaller yet just as costly. On January first, we spent $86, not including tip, for two teppanyaki dinners and a sunset sushi roll. Normally when you dine in, you’re full prior to getting your main course, and you have plenty to take home after...at least in my experience. The last two times we have ordered out from this restaurant, the portion sizes are not even enough to fill the takeout boxes. I really feel it’s kind of offensive, because I know that not as many people are working and times are hard for everyone, but to spend $86 for barely any food, it’s kind of insulting to those of us that are paying for it. Also I asked for extra sauce, which the person at the front kind of argued with me that I was already getting sauce, but I wanted to pay for more sauce. Then, I didn’t even get the number of sauces that I ordered/paid for. I really love this restaurant and I’m not going to stop going there, but I do really believe that the portion sizes are disappointing...especially for the price.

So bummed we won’t ever be coming to this location ever again. The Clovis location is so much friendlier. We arrived early for our reservation to celebrate my husband’s birthday but we were missing 2 from the group. They didn’t let us know there was only a 10 minute grace period from the reservation but when I asked if I could just order for them, the hostess ignored me and just pushed out reservation back 30 minutes instead. My husband’s brothers had arrived literally in that moment and weren’t happy about it but she was rude and avoided us. My husband tried to talk to her about the grace period since we weren’t told over the phone nor after arriving early and checking in with her. It was some blonde chick. Then you see the other hostesses just hanging around in the front gossiping. We waited the extra time and his brother had to step out during that time but the same chick gave us attitude saying it was dinner for 5 because one person wasn’t there and I told her again, we were paying for his plate so what was her problem? Not sure. Our chef was awesome though. He’s from the Clovis location and again, they’re SO MUCH FRIENDLIER. Our server didn’t check in with us often, no one sang him happy birthday even though they did it for the other table, and we paid for one dinner which included the ice cream and we were suppose to have received one for his birthday and that didn’t happen either. I asked a different server for the ice creams and she told our server and she never brought them and we had to wait by the front to get them. The lady I originally asked was the one that brought them. She was sweet. Our server wasn’t attentive. And the blonde hostess should probably work in the back where her attitude won’t be seen by customers.

I still don’t know why she pushed the reservation back. We were sitting at a table by ourselves anyways and when she saw my brother in laws walk in, she completely avoided us. Someone should really train her on her customer service skills. Hopefully other people have complained so she can just be let go at this point.

Never returning to this location again.

Side note: our 1 year old daughter had a blast! It was her first experience. Again, such a cool chef, so good with her. We will be visiting him at the Clovis...

Rushed! For having to pay a $40 deposit along with a threat of “if your whole party isn’t here by the time of your reservation, you have an extended 10 minute window or you will be dropped” little pricey to save a table to then be told you may lose it if you have stragglers. We weren’t even sat at our reservation time so should I charge you my $40 you made us pay?? Didn’t think so. Once we were sat it took a while to get drinks from our server who talked like a mouse. He then somehow missed a kids meal but luckily it was caught during the soup and salad portion. Our chef should not be a chef there. Bland personality and where was the show? I can go anywhere for veggies, fried rice and chicken for a quarter of the price. My children were turned around in their chairs watching the other chefs do their fire tricks. Disappointing. Once the food was cooked and probably the only good thing about this experience, they immediately came through with togo containers while we all still had full plates! Unsure if we would need any we took a few just in case as we were still eating. The staff stood off to the side watching us like vultures waiting for us to finish to clean the table and get ready. We were all talking about how rushed we felt there during our meal. I couldn’t even enjoy my food because they were standing there staring at us. Took them a while to come over and sing happy birthday though but once they finally did and my child was eating their ice cream the manager comes over and tells us we need to finish visiting in the bar as they have another reservation for this table. I told her “my child just got her ice cream, we will leave when she is finished.” My child felt so uncomfortable after that she didn’t want the ice cream anymore . I will not be coming back $400 meal for 12 and disgusting service is not worth it. Want the same dining experience with better service who also takes your photo for your celebration to keep? Go to Yoshinos! I promise you’ll be much...

I've been to Sakura Chaya multiple times. The first few times the service was great and the food was good. However, the last 3 times I've gone the service wasn't so great and on my mother's birthday lunch the management was disrespectful and I won't be going back.

On 11/24/13 we went for teppan yaki and the wait was 45 minutes, which is fine because it was busy. My family and I went to the bar and had some drinks, my brother went up to the front the restaurant and told the hostess who took down our name that we were going to be in the back and to make sure and go get us. The hostess called for other customer names at the bar 3 times while we were waiting so we assumed all would be fine.

After an hour we hadn't been called and we inquired about why. The hostess stared wide eyed and stated that the manager crossed our names off the list. Obviously we were upset, and were told they would get us seated in 5 minutes. 20 minutes later we still hadn't been sat. Not only does the manager not take any responsibility for the mishap he blamed us for not hearing him call our names and was incredibly condescending and insincere, stating how busy it was. I've worked in the dining industry for years(not anymore but I have 6 years experience) and this was simply someone with no customer service ability, which I guess he(the manager) thinks he could get away with because this is a fairly popular restaurant. When we got sat to eat(with people who showed up at least 45 minutes after us) we were pretty upset about the whole situation and when the plates they brought us were not fully cleaned and had rice sticking all over multiple plates we simply got up and left. By all means go if you want, but this place has some horrendous customer service and the manager's are so clueless about human interaction. I won't be going back. The only nice thing I can say is at least the bar tender was very nice and courteous, he could teach that manager how to do...
