We were looking for a new spot for brunch on Saturday so I checked out the reviews for Toast of the Town a few days ahead of time.
A lot of people mention that the wait time and that the time it takes to get your food was very long. People also mentioned that the service wasn't up to par...so I had to experience it for myself.
When we walked in, we were greeted at the door by a couple of hostesses and was promptly seated. My mother is on a walker and the hostess was mindful enough to seat us at a table, without us asking, to accommodate us and make sure the walker was not in the way.
We were seated around 10:10. There was no crowd at the time; about 3 tables were occupied. This establishment is a bit on the small side but it was enough to accommodate the many patrons that were coming and going.
Our drink order was taken almost immediately and about 5-7 minutes afterwards, our food order was taken. We were given enough time to look over the menu to decide what we wanted. With it being our first time here, I felt no pressure to be rushed.
They were playing R&B music which set a very nice vibe for me. The music was at a decent level to where everyone could hear each other talking across the table.
Lexi was our server and she did an awesome job! She was very attentive and kept coming back at the appropriate times to check on us. She was friendly, very helpful and very knowledgeable. She gave me the impression that she enjoyed her job and appreciated being there.
JUST FYI...The menu you see online, has not gone into effect yet. At the moment, the menu they have in house is all that's available. I've included it here with my review. There are no FREE refills on tea, canned soda or juices; just coffee and of course water from the tap
So, everyone at the table decided on ordering the country breakfast. For it to be a limited menu, there were a lot of good choices.
It may have been slow when we first arrived but things were picking up as more people started coming in around 10:25.
Our food came out around 10:40. This timeframe seemed about right from the time that we ordered until the time it took to receive fresh cooked food at our table. We had a little bit of everything going on..sausage patties, bacon, scrambled eggs, eggs sunny side up, potatoes, grits, waffles, regular french toast, strawberries and cream stuffed french toast ($3 upcharge)
EVERYTHING was soooo good!! I don’t have a bad thing to say about any of the food that I had on my plate! The portion size was on point. The food was seasoned well; not heavily salted.
I admit that my experience was a lot better than some of the reviews that I seen and that may have very well been because of the reviews. You talk; they listened!
Will I go back? Of course! And I’m going to tell other...
Read moreI’m in love with this place and am so happy to finally have an establishment like this so close to home! I’ve been twice now, once before 10:30 and once after 12:00 and both times, I was seated immediately. Although service was stretched thin when we went after noon, that was to be expected with an almost full house. Both times visiting, our servers were gracious and knowledgeable and accommodating.
The food. Omg. The. Food. 🤤 Their sweet potato cornbread is so delicious! It’s moist with a hint of sweet. There ought to be a law that all diners must purchase the cornbread! I haven’t had fried green tomatoes like TOTT offers since my Mis’ipi days (and if ya know about Mis’ipi & fried green tomatoes, ya know you can’t never find ‘em in Texas — except at TOTT)!
The shrimp and grits, chef’s kiss. Out. Of. Control. Whoever is seasoning the dishes, keep them around! Fan-freaking-tastic!
The chicken & waffles is stacked taller than the Transco Tower, and that chicken is C-R-I-S-P-Y with a capital crisp, my friends!
The omelet, fluffy and filled to perfection.
And if you’ve got a sweet tooth, the stuffed red velvet waffles will definitely kick start your diabetic coma journey (in a good way).
Toast of the Town is about to be the talk of the town imo. The staff is accommodating and friendly. The food is so tasty and seasoned to perfection. The portions are generous, and the prices are quite reasonable. I can’t wait for the additions they’ll surely be bringing with time, like fancier coffees, bloody marys 🤞, and maybe some biscuits & gravy (hint-hint to the owners 😂).
I foresee this place being a regular weekend thing for me and my family, as well as many others in the community. I’m so glad TOTT...
Read moreWe were in the area, and I remembered I saw a post on Facebook about this restaurant. We knew being a Sunday morning, it would be busy and we would have to wait awhile, we had no problem with that. We arrived around 10:05, it was busy, we were seated within 5 minutes. My husband is really good about reading rooms and goes by vibes, he wasn’t feeling it and neither was my four year old daughter, but I insisted we stay and try the place. Our drink order was taken, we ordered about 10 minutes after that. I was keeping track of time because someone was dropping off items I ordered around 11am at my current location. It was around 10:35 and we decided to switch our order to go. Our waitress was understanding because it was taking awhile for our order. About 10 minutes later our waitress came to our table and apologized because apparently somehow our order was cancelled. We just got up and left.
I hate to do bad reviews, but I just want to warn others especially with young children, be prepared to wait, if you have AT&T, the service isn’t that great in there. (We didn’t ask if WiFi was available) In a situation like we experienced, I would expect some kind of management to come to our table and say something, but that wasn’t the case. Luckily there is a Shipleys a few businesses down that comforted my four year old since she was a...
