بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ Alrighty, so honest review time. I am from the bay and I eat food in Pakistan every year or 2 years so my taste is quite fresh and standards are high.
So I heard about Bundu khan in La and coincidentally also came this weekend so had to give it a try. Now I know they only focus on bbq so no salans/curries to worry about as their emphasis is ONLY on bbq.
Ordered 1 leg/thigh original, 1 of the 6pc chicken seekh kebab, 1 chicken breast bihari , and naan.
So first off, restaurant was huge and very packed. So people def seem to like it, and so we will find out. Turns out the chutney is self serve in tiny little cups which was quite frankly a pain. Usually in other restaurants it’s in a squirt bottle and much easier to use. Also the imli chutney pump was broken so took some time for staff to fix (would be easier if y’all just got the bottles and left for ppl to use those instead)
Second at least the plates and to go boxes are quite easy to access and get. Plus there. After placing order we obtained those little electronic devices that lets us know when order is ready. Seems useful.
Food arrived in okay timing, as they have to cook the bbq fresh. The seekh kebab didn’t have the taste of kebab and were quite small pieces and not thick and juicy. Would not get again.
The chicken leg was okay size and flavor was good. The chicken breast was very small compared to other places I’ve ordered breast at. One person of decent appetite would probably need 2 of these. They did flavor the chicken leg and breast well, that i would order again.
The naan not as fluffy or like a Pakistani Karachi naan, as if wasn’t cooked in a tandoor. Surprised how large it was and they cut it into halves , helpful. Would order again.
Unfortunately the chai was $2, quite a rip off. Should usually be free, and also the quality was bad. It was undercooked and tasted watery. Not a good doodh patti chai. Needs to cook longer and add more milk.
Didn’t try the dessert items, or bfast items. Maybe next time إن شاء الله
Also no need for music in the store, that’s a Negative. Since people want to talk not listen to music.
Also one bathroom (men/women both) for an entire restaurant def not enough cuz there was a line to use restroom for such. Large restaurant should have at least one bathroom for men and another for women.
Self service also to clean up after yourself too on top of the paying for...
Read moreI have heard the name from Karachi Pakistan and when I came to know that same restaurant opened here and when I happen to be in LA area so it was must to visit it. I went there with my family on Xmas day and it was a cold wet day. The restaurant was full to its max capacity. It took 17 mins in the line and finally We ordered the Bahari boti, seekh kabob, and lamb chops. We had to wait for 48 mins before our food was ready. The food was freshly cooked and hot as how BBQ should be, the food was as I expected, which means very tasty. Bihari boti was very nicely marinated, it was very tender and juicy. Seekh kabob was small in size like finger size. Culturally the seekh kabob are at least 10-12 inch long so they were small but taste was as good as they should be. And last but definitely not least, lamb chops were very tasty and tender. I personally make very good lamb chops on my grill, and I cook them on my camping trips as well so I never use any marination except black pepper and rock salt but here they were very tasty. We also ordered our food with their naan. I will say that I had better naans but puri (parata) was very tasty and so is their signature halwa. Now being major airline pilot, I traveled to more than 72 countries and I dig Ethnic/street foods. And I must say this that I never came across a restaurant whose every item is better than their competitors. Which means that one restaurant may have good BBQ but may not have good curry or Naan, and other may have top notch Naan but lack in other area. And this stay same for every kind of food. So when I say their Naan were not the best does not mean they were bad, it means that I had better. Please know this that is Pakistani BBQ food, not Indian. Two very different foods. If you visit here and expect Indian curry then it’s not the restaurant issue. If you visit Mercedes dealership and expect to get some Chinese car then it’s not Mercedes’ fault. It is same if you eat Biryani and expect Afghani polawo then it’s a mistake. Two very good tasty rice dishes but very different in...
Read moreExcellent Experience I was born in Karachi and when I found out that Bundu Khan is opening a branch here in Fullerton, I was delighted. I purposely waited a few weeks to allow the management to get a hang of things. We went there on a Thursday, the line was not super long and the food was delicious. Here is my take on the food items that we ordered. Chicken Tikka: I ordered both regular and spicy. For the people who want the authentic Karachi flavor, they should order spicy kitchen tikka. I placed two separate orders and both times the tikkas were cooked perfectly. Beef Seekh Kabab: The spices was identical to the original however, the meat was too lean. At the original Bundu Khan in Karachi, when the seekh Kababs come, there is a thin layer of oil on the kababs and at the bottom of the plate from the fat in the kababs; whereas the beef for kababs here was too lean. I think the owners are thinking about Californian sensitivities to greasy foods but if someone is ordering deep fried parathas then they clearly are more concerned about getting the right taste. Beef Bihari Boti: Excellent Chicken Tikka Boti: Excellent Chicken Malai Boti: Excellent Parathas: Excellent. Identical to the original. I have heard from some people they it is actually poor I but since it is Karachi food, then Karachi folks get to decide what they call it and in Karachi this style of Paratha is called a paratha. Naan: Good Strawberry Ice cream: Excellent Falooda: Excellent Imli Chutney: A bit too dilute Green Chutney: Great Management: The staff was very friendly and were trying their best to give the patrons a pleasant experience. The place was clean, and the staff was frequently going around the tables and cleaning them and picking up the used plates. I am sure that the place will get even better in a few weeks and I wish...
