It truly pains me to write this one. I’m not a resident of Fulshear, but have around it a long time. I remember the days going to The Round Up for some rodeoing to playing golf at Valley Lodge. So when I saw that Dozier’s was opening back up and under the guidance of its new owners, I was excited. I knew what they had done in Rosenberg to 2M’s. I was taking my mom to lunch today and she wanted to go to Buc-ees for a chopped beef sandwich. I suggested we try Dozier’s as I had not been there since they roast yr. So off we go.when I got there I thought it odd that at noon on a work day that there were only two people sitting and eating. But whatever. My mom wanted that chopped beef sandwich and she asked that they slice brisket for it as she didn’t want all the scrap pieces making up her sandwich. The guy looked confused and pulled at a pile of already chopped beef and she asked for him to chop up brisket, not use the pre-chopped. He said that he would have to charge extra for doing that - that confirmed to me they were using the left overs for the chopped. She said ok to use the chopped. She got her sandwich. I ordered a baked potato with jalapeño cheddar sausage. He handed me tray and off we go to pay - no sides. Now the potato n sausage was $15.00 so I found it odd that when I paid, they weighed the meat. I asked why he was weighing the meat and he said, to make sure the amount was right. Again odd. I went and doctored my tater up and mom got some items to add to her sandwich. So off we go to grab a chair and dig in. We started eating and as I looked over the receipt, two things caught my eye. 1 - there were two lines for the stuffed tater, one for the tater and one for the meat - hence why he was weighing it. I came out lucky as it was a little less than on menu. 2 - the sub total and tax did not add up total so I asked the girl at the register why they didn’t add up and she said because I used a debit card. I asked why they did not say something before and she said there was a sign at the register. I saw it after she moved some items sitting on it. It’s a 4% charge but the way. I thought it wasn’t worth it to argue. So back I go to finish lunch. So on to the food….right. The sausage was not jalapeño cheddar, but regular. But since it was already on the tater and now covered in bbq sauce, I thought oh well. By now my attitude is changing about this experience so what follows could be influenced by what so far has happened. The sausage lacked good smokehouse flavor. The BBQ sauce was thin and lacked flavor. The potato was perfect. And so were the pickles. My mom commented that hers lacked flavor as well and needed more sauce to help it out. I rarely ever leave food, especially BBQ. But I did. Wasn’t worth the effort. This was not the Dozier’s...
Read moreThis place used to be great a long time ago, so I brought my parents over an hour away to visit and purchase meat from the butcher shop. We were hungry, so we ordered sandwiches, and the bill seemed a little high. I went to the counter and questioned the bill and was met with hostility from a young dark haired male with glasses claiming to be one of the managers. It was discovered that my elderly parent was over charged, and instead of apologizing, the young boy became confrontational with me due to my complaint. He then said loudly that he didn't want to help me, left the counter, and proceeded to visibly bad mouth me to every other employee in the store, and in a tone where other customers could here. Even with the inconvenience of the overcharge and embarrassment of having to even deal with this situation, the Hispanic lady/cashier who claimed to be a manager refused to refund or replace the disgusting chopped (ground) beef sandwich that my mom could not even eat. See the picture below. The beans were bland disgusting as well. A restaurant interested in customer service and retaining customers in this economy would go above and beyond to apologize and refund or at least replace the sandwich, but she refused to do either, instead offering to throw a little bit of sliced brisket on the already disgusting sandwich. What qualified manager or decent establishment would treat a customer, especially an elderly customer in that manner? This place is clearly not geared towards providing good service to every customer, so think before you go to this establishment. The sad part about it is that we left without getting the butcher meat that we actually came for due to the treatment received in the hot deli. We wasted three hours of our travel time and gas. This will be the last time we visit this...
Read moreI’ve eaten at Dozier’s for 20+ years and my family requested it at least once sometimes three times a week. When The Brother’s sold the place we were optimistic about the future for sure. When Jim started doing craft bbq it was delicious however it changed the overall experience of the restaurant. I had a couple issues with them weighing a slab of ribs and after they weighed them Jim would cut the ends off of the slabs and toss them in the trash (I like the charred ends btw) I was surprised by this because I was charged by weight and this aggravated me because the weight decreased and the price didn’t. I said something and they just gave me a “look” like I was crazy. This happened twice so we decided to not return for a long period of time. When we did go back they had focused on the patio and jazzing up the place while removing the traditional soda flavors with some trendy flavors that in my opinion were terrible tasting. The real shocker was the menu change and the significant difference in pricing. What we’d normally spend for a family of four became what we’d spend for 1 1/2 people. The portions became smaller and very costly. The sad part was watching the old timers at the counter trying to order a combo meal they’d been ordering for 30 years and them being told everything is sold by the 1/4 pound now and sides were sold separately. Thats what Dozier’s used to be known for is great food at a great value. I used to buy a slab of amazing ribs for 18-21 dollars and when Jim took over a slab was close to $40 dollars. In my opinion Jim ran another business in the ground and walked away before the other shoe dropped. I just read that they’re closing March 30th 2024….what a shame. All the trophies in the world won’t mean much when you are known for killing good businesses...
