I've been to Arashi Yama a number of times and never had an experience quite like this one. We ordered our food, and because my entree was deep fried (sweet and sour chicken) the other guests' hibachi meal had become cold. Hibachi is supposed to be HOT... like, right off of the heat. That wasn't the case, so she asked for it to be sent back. The waitress was very pleasant about it and understood. She comes back about 4 minutes later (I timed it) saying that the chef remade it. It was literally the same plate of food. The salmon was broken and the rice was now sticky but it most definitely the same plate. Naturally, we didn't want it. Food is too expensive for it to not be prepared properly. Where this should have been the end of the conversation, out of nowhere the owner/manager comes up to the table screaming about she saw him make it over, and we ate the food (we ate a piece of broccoli)and how much she "hates people like us". I politely asked her to back up from us, and she threatened to call the police. At that point, all former mutual respect was lost. We never has a problem paying for what we had outside of the hibachi which was the SS chicken, 2 cocktails, and a soup that came w/the hibachi. We had no problem with her charging for the soup separately. I told her since she wanted to threaten us, and make a scene, I'd call the police myself. I noticed that shut her up from that aspect, but honestly... what was calling the police going to do? I can guarantee that if we were white, that wouldn't have even been a thought. I don't like to pull the race card, but what about me not wanting ill prepared food was worth a call to GPD? And what were they going to do? Arrest me because I don't want cold food? As we left, the owner/manager ran to the table to make sure we signed the bill as if it still wouldn't be charged either way. We still tipped out waitress over 20% but I will...

My wife and I always try to get the most simple rolls when trying a new sushi spot - it allows you to really taste the quality of the fish and preparation. I have to say that this was really well prepared and fresh. You could taste each ingredient and they did a couple really creative things I'd never tried before (lemon zest and roe!). The ginger seems much higher quality than most places and the wasabi is average/above average (fresh ground wasabi is always best). You can also tell it's high quality because it's more filling - my wife and I split 4 rolls and 1 small appetizer and we left feeling stuffed.
The cocktails were good, but not great. I got the "Japanese Old Fashioned," which was a bit of a misnomer since it didn't taste anything like an Old Fashioned (much sweeter). Not a bad drink, just misleading name.
We didn't get any of the hot dishes, but they looked like huge portions when I saw them go by. I've also been told their Ramen isn't very good - which is not surprising since that's all about the broth and requires a lot of attention.
The place itself is nicely decorated. It's a decent size, but there aren't a ton of tables and the parking is limited for the number of adjacent businesses. This place will compete directly with Dragonfly and has the advantage of being far away from the partying undergrads. We will...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI am incredibly disappointed and disgusted. I have been here a few times and the service and food are usually good, this time I bit into my sweet and sour chicken and some of the pieces were cold and tasted like a wet rag. I am so disgusted. I had to spit out my food in the middle of eating it. They then refused to give me a refund and were really awkward and rude about it. Literally never coming back and most definitely warning people to stay away.
Adding to this since the very kind owner left a reply. First of all look how unprofessional of a reply that was. How did the dumplings have anything to do with my complaint? What was the point of even bringing that up? Second of all, when I initially complained about the food I didnāt even ask for a refund, they just replied that I couldnāt get one which was awkward and weird and very presumptuous of them. After that I decided this was ridiculous. Third of all, I did not finish the whole plate of chicken, I finished maybe 3/4 of it because as I said most of it was good until I bit into a couple pieces that were cold and tasted like a dirty wet dish rag. I had to spit it out and immediately send it away. I donāt know why it tasted so awful but clearly that is a food safety issue. The courteous thing to do would be to apologize and offer some sort of sign that you actually care about your customers. Free desert, partial refund,...
