Frida's Mexican Cuisine & Bar — Restaurant in Gainesville

We were traveling thru to Dallas from OKC. Seeing an empty parking ot should've been a red flag, but sometimes you find a diamond in the rough kinda place. Ya never know. The guy inside was fairly nice. We had to sit ourselves. Then another guy brought us this very small bowl of fake colored tortilla chips and a very tiny bowl of salsa. We took one bite of the chips, ot was so stale and no flavor at all. They claim to be "authentic". Maybe in soneone else's opinion it may be, but I've had authentic Mexican good and raised in Southern California raised and grew up around Latino families. The menu options were very select and for the price...well it's a little high for a Strip Mall, empty parking lot and no flavor tortilla chips. We were really disappointed. We just ended up going to the Sonic right across from them. I'll give the restaurant 4 stars for how welcoming they are and the cool decore. A 1 for the chips. That's like an opening statement...if the chips are good and salsa is good, more than likely the food will be good. But, unfortunately and disappointedly...the chips and salsa were kinda gross. No one wants to eat old, stale...

We were a party of four. Each couple paid there own bill. We ordered 2 entrees for us and a Birria Ramen to share with all. The food was ok. My wife had the fajitas and didn't eat hardly any of it because of how tough it was. Hot sauce was good. Some chips were good and crispy and warm, some were thick and nasty. The kicker for this place is after checking the bill, they hit us for a large party fee of 20%. Remember we were a party of 4, yet they have it on the receipt as 3, I guess because we ordered what might be considered 3 entrees. I inquired about it and was told that yes, that is normal, even though the waitress went to the owner/manager (I don't know which) and was asking as if she weren't sure. I didn't feel like waiting around and left no tip for the waitress. If this company is good in any way, they'll change this policy and give the waitress her due tip. I've seen some crazy things in my 62 trips around the sun, but this ranks way...

If you place an order through an app you may want to call and make sure it went through because their system is down sometimes. It happened to me but fortunately I did not have to wait long and they made me very comfortable with the soda and all. There are two teenage guys working there that are very polite and go out of their to provide great customer service. They could actually teach the older generation a thing or two. The older dude brought my to go order out set it down didn't say a word. I didn't notice because I was on my phone looking at their website and I wasn't sitting at the table he put it on. The guys even carried it to my car for me. It was the third visit and the first issue we've ever had and wasn't that big a deal though. The service has always been good and they...
