Very disappointing. We came in just after 18:00 tonight. First time. Went to the counter and attempted to order. Ordered fried Mac and cheese for appetizer, "Sorry, we're out of that."
Ordered pulled pork potato skins instead. Ordered brisket platter, "Sorry, we're out of brisket too." Ok, ordered pulled pork platter for me and half rack of ribs for the wife.
Appetizer and food all comes out at the same time. Server takes our food to 4 different tables (out of 6 occupied in the restaurant) before figuring out it's for us. Despite the fact that we all have our order numbers on a placard at the table. And that it's the same person who took our order in the first place.
No cornbread, which people seem to rave about. "Sorry, we ran out of cornbread."
Three potato skins came, wife and I each ate one and neither one of us went back for the third. Pulled pork (Carolina style) was ok.
Ranch beans were pretty good, I will say. Coleslaw edible but a little bland to my taste. Wife's french fries over cooked and oil tasted old.
Wife's $17(!) ribs were abominably overcooked. The so called bark on the outside was so tough neither of us could chew it. Like, much tougher than beef jerky. Think leather. The meat inside the thing was fairly tasty, credit where credit is due, but you had to shell it like a crab to get to it.
Service was ... minimalist. The staff weren't rude. Otherwise not much to say, other than aforementioned trouble finding the correct table.
$60 for 2 entrees, 1 app, 1 draft beer, 1 soft drink, including tip. You tip up front when you order and pay, which is probably good for them, since they'd have gotten a plug nickel if I'd figured my tip AFTER we ate. Much too expensive given the size of the serving, poor quality of the food, and nonexistent service.
Can't recommend this restaurant. Maybe they're better at a...

From the moment you walk in, the aroma of smoked meats tantalizes your senses, setting the stage for a delightful culinary journey. The menu boasts an array of barbecue delights, but what truly sets The Bone apart is their turkey meat. Read moreEasily the most flavorful and properly cooked ribs I've found in NOVA (I'm a North Carolinian who cooks easily close to an actual ton of whole hog, butts and ribs for various events every year). Pork and brisket have always been moist with just enough smokiness, definitely not over-smoked. The sandwiches are plenty large. Don't miss out on the Spring Roll appetizer...it'll change your life! The cornbread muffins have a great sweetness - you'll hate them if you prefer dry, bland, Yankee-style cornbread - and they've always been warm. I'm still waiting to try the turkey and the chicken. I like that the meats don't come already sauced- that shows you that they're proud of the meat; sauce it yourselves if you need to. They have a great Happy Hour draft beer special in the bar area, and the employees are always happy to talk with you like they've known you for years.
I've never run into them being out of anything like some reviewers have mentioned, but keep in mind that this place is not huge...they cook quantities to anticipated traffic levels like many INDEPENDENT places do to maximize food quality and minimize waste; it's hard to plan perfectly sometimes. I will honestly miss this place when I return to NC...
